Are you saying that Apple exchange all faulty phones under 12 months old to new ones? Surely this is not the case.
Apple do not repair broken iPhones. They just replace them with new ones or remanufactered ones (New case and ram etc. Just reused processor from a previously broken iPhone if it was working)0 -

Apple is even lax on that now. Both water sensors have to be tripped and if you dispute it they are meant to look inside. Most genius can not be bothered to do this and just replace it.0 -

Even if you "lose the reciepts" to try and avoid duty, it's worth pointing out if HMRC suspect you of importing anything the onus is on you to prove you bought it in the UK/EU NOT on them to prove you didn't.
If they suspect you of importing anything and you can't prove it hasbeen duty /vat paid (remember they can look up IMEI's easily) they'll charge you the VAT and Duty there and then and you have to stump it up or surrender the device. If it's a legit UK purchase you can claim the VAT/Duty back later on sending them the appropriate paperwork.0
