advise on woodburner please

hi guys,i really do need some advice please.i have a 12kw woodburner and it sits in a old inglenook fireplace, all the measurments to combustables are all within the limit.my isue is that i have an old oak lintle that sits ontop of bricks and concrete mortar. the space from the top of the woodburner to the first set of bricks is 9 inches then 14inch of brick up to the lintle.i no at the back of the lintle is a heat sheild to protect from flue pipe, its just that i no bricks can absorb alot of heat and are worryed that the lintle may smoulder and eventually catch fire as the burner sits under neath. so overall there is 23 inch from the stove to the lintle just worryed that the lintel may go up in fire.any help would be most appreciated thnks very much guys

If the heat has to pass through a layer of bricks to the lintel then I wouldnt worry about it
  • We're talking spontaneous ignition here, rather than the wood being in direct contact with a naked flame. Common sense suggests that a solid piece of wood would need to get incredibly hot to spontaneously burst into flames. A quick bit of research suggests that 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit is about the right point. If a piece of wood 24 inches away from the stove were to achieve that sort of temperature then I certainly wouldn't want to be in the same room!
  • thanks very much for your replys this has helped me peice of mind
