This is an interesting thread. Sometimes, when you see people do disgusting, antisocial things, you wonder if they have any idea of how other people see them or if they actually think what they are doing is acceptable. It seems that OP really has no clue how the majority of people perceive spitting at/in someone else's property. (Or spitting in public, generally.)

Just because I was drunk and lost, it doesn't mean I can't find my way home.
What I'd like to add also is that this girl hardly gave me a chance to ask abuot the local buses/main road ... it's as if for their own personal comfort they absolutely insisted on a cab for me. They could see I was badly drunk but they never gave me the chance to see how I could explore buses/main road etc. I'd have thought she could at least asked for my consent.

maybe she offered to get a taxi because she was concerned for your safety on account of the fact you were so drunk? As for "just cos I was drunk and lost doesn't mean I couldn't find my way home" that doesn't make sense - if you're lost you don't know where you are!

As for asking for your consent, you could have said no thanks I'll walk but it was nice of her to pay for it, especially as it was such a big amount and she didn't know you.

however, I do agree that you should only pay her £32 as it is unreasonable to expect any phone call to cost £18 let alone a call which should take under a minute, she should have said if she didn't know any local numbers.

I think you need to re-read the original post.

A good point - I find spitting absolutely vile, especially in the given context. When someone throws a punch or kicks out, it is often heat of the moment and without any thought. Still not excusable, but rage or anger takes over from thought. Spitting takes thought, it is very targeted, and shows real intent to cause offence.

Another vote for growing up, learn to drink like a man not a boy , flowers with the money back (£50 AND the cost of the cab would be the decent thing to do) and realize just because footballers spit it isn't acceptable to most normal people (the only people who do it around here are the druggies and the alcoholics).

I feel sorry for the taxi driver-you lost him a lot of money (£50 won't come near) -a bit of respect for someone earning a living wouldn't go amiss.

Don't know why you think it's complicated -it's very straightforward. You messed up and annoyed and offended people as well as cost them money and the right thing to do is put things right.

what is it that I've missed? I read it as she paid £32 for a taxi, but spent £18.80 on a phone call to 118 118 booking the taxi on OP's phone, he then gets a £50 soiling charge which she wants him to pay her, so I calculated the £50 charge he should pay her minus the £18 for the call meaning he should give her £32 (or £31.20 if we're getting technical)!

OK, it's just a coincidence that your result happened to be the actual cost of the fare. I thought you'd misunderstood what she was asking for. Sorry. :)

  • I expect the girl didn't know she was racking up an £18.80 bill either.

Even if she did, you should still be grateful for her intervention, and pay up with thanks.

Well that's exactly how I see it. I'm happy to pay the fine of £50 but why should I pay for the phonebill? Anyways I texted the girl saying I'll pay the £50 just for the hell of it.

Well she mentioned after the call it would be expensive and that it wasn't to do with her or something.
