How do I do clean install of WIN ME?

Options
My Dell had Win ME installed but I began having problems with running several programmes and was unable to install IE6 over IE5 and it was becoming unstable , with several blue screens of death!

Anyway I've tried to reinstall from the reinstallation disk and had several files being unable to be copied. I've managed to reinstall with the boot disk and installing to a new directory called Windows1. But now I can't use the CD drive.

So I was wondering how do I do a clean install so that the hard drive is clean.

I had already backed up the data on the hard drive before doing any of this!

Any help would be appreciated!

I'd use the excuse to get yourself hooked up with XP or Vista! Windows ME is renowned for being pretty awful!

If your PC is from the WIN ME era it might not be capable of running Vista, but you should be able to pick up a cheap copy of XP that will run ok.. have a look on Ebay.

Thanks for the advice but I'd still like to know how to do a clean install. Does anyone else have some ideas please?

If you have all your stuff backed up then restart your pc make sure your cd rom is your bootup drive and just stick the ME disk in your pc it should ask you do you want to run it.

Then just follow the wizard make sure it wipes your hard disk by doing a format.
    Kind Regards

    throw it in the canal.
    Get some gorm.
  • Did you know support ended for ME a good while back, you should upgrade to at least windows 2000 if you are going to be surfing the net. With the constant flow of new malware running a machine with no recent patching may be asking for trouble.
  • Someone asked the same question here a few weeks back and I pointed them to this site.
It worked for them, hopefully it will for you.
