Vent at council charging for stolen wheelie bin

we thought the same
phoned the council and they said it most likely fell in the machine
said it happens
no charge in Edinburgh for a replacement
My shop bin got nicked last year. I used to keep an eye out for the bin lorry, run out with a bag and explain. The guy at the council said it would be £45 for a replacement.
One day one of the binmen asked me what the story was. I explained my bin had been half-inched, he said "I reckon it went in the back of the lorry and got crushed"
"No mate, somebody stole it"
"NO, I think you'll find it WENT IN THE LORRY AND GOT CRUSHED. Totally our fault, very sorry, we'll bring you a new one for free"
"Oh, riiiiiight. I get you. Thanks mate."

I am ashamed to say that my hubby went for a walk round the terraces and 'found' a bin in an empty house
It has of course got our address on it so it must be ours

I'm shocked that they don't only charge for the bin but also for delivery.
Here when my bin has gone missing a replacement has been supplied with no charge. At the moment I'm waiting for a replacement box for recycling as mine has vanished.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

For a time my mum's neighbours were playing "share the glass bin". There was one less than the number of houses, and every week it seemed, a different house didn't have a black bin."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

We ended up with 2 bins at one point. The spare didn't have a number, so we kept putting it out for weeks until it was claimed/went on holiday somewhere else.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Nice money spinner for the council - provide fewer bins than there are houses, charge everyone who ends up without one for a replacement - like musical chairsYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Rang the council who informed me it will cost £20 for a bin and £20 delivery, we simply cannot afford this. I asked if there was any help available, maybe paying weekly but the lady wouldn't budge. I also asked if I should report it to the police in order to get a crime number and then maybe the council could claim on their insurance but that was a no go too
Rant over!!
That's cheap - Its around 90 quid here or £130 for the bigger bins they use in rural areas - and yes, they are popular with thieves.

we only get an allowance of 1 free black bin bag and 1 free green recycle bag a week here. You can leave any black bag out each week but the recycleing has to be in a green or clear bag...... our council cant afford wheelie bins but we are in a rural area.........
