Reporting benefit cheats.

Looking on the website for reporting benefit cheats, it says you can ring, write or email. It also says you can do this without giving your name although they prefer you to give your details in case they need more information.
Has anyone ever done this?
Is it completly annonymous?
Do the same rules apply with the local councils as well as the Tax office/DSS

It's completely anonymous. I did it, but the stupid benefits people just sent the person in question a letter stating what date they'd be visiting, so they made sure all her boyfriends stuff was hidden!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks Pinkshoes.
Did you write to them, ring them, or do it online?
If you ring them do they press for your details. I dont mind giving them, its just that Im so worried about come backs if they let your name slip.0 -
I did read a few months ago that they were so busy that letters weren't opened for weeks.
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
Do it online, its easy.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

I did it about 4 years ago, three times for the same person, all online.
Nothing ever happened, despite me giving her name, dob, his name, dob, who he worked for, the hours he left for work andall of her childrens date of births. She claimed as a single parent when in fact had just got married!!
I would never report anyone again as nothing happened for me when I did report someone.0 -
I've done it in the past and nothing came of it, even rung up and told them about my part in it, (abusive ex was claiming IS for us as a couple when I was working FT) Nothing came of it, If you can't even "dob yourself in" is there any point in it at all... Learning to live with BPD & DDNOS
:j I no longer skinny dip, I chunky dunk :j
After my op I'll be skinny dipping!

I rang, yes completley anonymous, you don't get to know if anything has been done about it, but I have since been told they do investigate.
When they do catch someone, the cheat gets the opportunity to confess and pay the money back to avoid prosectution, which I think is why you don't get to hear of anything happening.
Also if you ring they won't ask for your contact details, they ask you loads of questions about the person you are reporting and get all the info they need there and then0 -

Uh? What does that mean?
Are you suggesting that you should NOT report someone doing something illegal just because something in the cosmos might object?
Or do you mean that those that cheat the taxpayer - that's all of the rest of us by the way - will get what they deserve by the will of a higher power?

NOPE, Sorry but your attempt at putting your words in to my mouth has failed.
But what I will say is this:
