Well the 3rd July 2012 represents something that isn't clear in your post.
    ???

Please explain. My post is very clear about people being able to convert their destination miles 1:1 to Avios Points after the 3rd July and has a link to the BA website which was to support that.

  • Had an e mail from Avios on 19th April offering to sell me 24000 Avios for £399 and if I pay with the LTSB card I get a bonus 9000 Avios. Implication is that this a "special" deal! I then enquired about using Avios for a ferry crossing (cost £276) and they want 60,500 miles for that! Using their valuation of the miles (excluding the bonus) that would make the cost equivalent to over £1000. I know there will always be a difference between what someone sells something for and what they will buy for but the discrepancy is IMHO excessive.

That's not my understanding of the situation. The following is from BA Executive Club FAQ's regarding the changes:

How do I transfer my destination miles to Avios and vice versa?
You will not be able to transfer your destinations miles to Avios until 3 July. We will contact you with details on how to transfer your Miles from your Diamond Club account on ba.com in the very near future.

I'd be interested to see where it says that you are able to do this before the 3rd July. Can you please post a link.

It's my understanding that if you wish to "Tier Match" between the BMI Diamond Club & BA Executive Club, you will be able to do that from the 1st May.

As bmi's e mail to Diamond Club members

"As part of the transition of bmi into British Airways, from 1 May 2012 British Airways is inviting you, as a Diamond Club member, to also join the Executive Club at your equivalent tier status level. Diamond Club Gold customers will be invited to become Gold members of the Executive Club and Silver members to become Silver, which will be in addition to your Diamond Club membership. Further details will follow shortly.

You will also be able to transfer your destinations miles to Executive Club Avios points at a rate of 1:1. British Airways will also be offering Executive Club customers the ability to transfer from Executive Club Avios points into destinations miles at a rate of 1:1. For example 100 destinations miles could be transferred into 100 Avios points and vice versa."

worldtraveller is correct - the BA link specifies that transfers (in either direction) will only be available from July 3rd. There is no way it would be possible from May 1st, as DC members can still redeem at their current rates until May 31st.

Why isn't it possible from May 1st?

    No, it states:
From 3 July, Diamond Club members will be able to transfer their destinations miles to Executive Club Avios points at a rate of 1:1.

British Airways will also be offering Executive Club customers the ability to transfer their Executive Club Avios points into destinations miles at a rate of 1:1.
We are creating an online tool that will allow Diamond Club and Executive Club customers to undertake transfers, which will be available from 3 July.

    Clear enough?

That's for the online tool, they've only announced the 1st May in e mails to Diamond Club members.

No, it does not say that, does it? I have the BMI emails, they do not state that transfers will be available from May 1st. Ask on Flyertalk if you are unsure, or of course, you could come back to us next week when you have tried to do a transfer and been told to come back in two months!
