came home one day and attemptred to switch my pc on then noticed it was switched off by the plug so switched it back on and tried again all that happend was the fan powered up and the processor and cd drives light up but thats it they blinked non stop but thats it, after a few days of trying this unplugging EVERYTHING and re-trying still no luck after a few adsy more it simply died no light no power of fan nothing i fear its the power supply so opened my pc and made sure everything was securly in and so on but still no luck WHAT CAN I DO i have been looking for a new pc rather than repairing my old one as the last time the power supply went i got it fixed and the same kept happening so i though my best bet would be to replace the whole pc

Sounds like the power supply. If you can't do it yourself, do you have a techie friend who could replace it for you? I'm sure the people here could direct you towards a decent power supply that isn't amazingly expensive. A lot cheaper than replacing a whole PC.Sigless0

My power supply broke before Christmas and it cost £25 to get it repaired which I thought was good because I had thought I would need to buy a new PC :beer:Life is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get

Power supplies vary in price, after having trouble with a few cheap ones quitting on me a bought a Hyper modular one, cost a bit but it's been rock solid (touch wood), in my experience with power supplies, you get what you pay for.
It really is easy to fit a new power supply though.Sigless0 -

Definitely, don't skimp on a power supply in a PC. Time and time again I come across problems with cheap power supplies. Get a decent manufacturer such as Antec or Seasonic.
If the PSU goes with a bang, it can take other components with it. If this happens to be your motherboard, CPU and video card, you could be looking at several hundred quid to replace them.0 -
If you're going to buy a power supply, consider the 400w Silverpower SP-400P1B - £31-32 delivered. Not a well-known make but it received good reviews - click here & here. We can advise better if you tell us your system spec. G0

erm its a E-machines 820 what else do you need to know i will reply????One Man & His Mission To Save £1 Million :beer:0

if it was switched by the plug i doubt it is the power supply unit(PSU). venture in the computer and find a small jumper saying CMOS RST(or variation of it. remove the battery and short that jumper for 1 minute(less time will probably do but differant models varry so might as well w8) then reconnect the power and try again.
what that does is reseting your motherboard. if your CPU still runs and cd and hard drive flash it means that power is still there(might not be the right amount though) and most likely a curropted moterboard is what you are facing. its not for the faint of heart and not for the noninitiated but worth a try, try this link for little bit of hardware repair info. easy reading and you might get some use out of it - even if its only to be able to discuss intelegently with a pc repair man so you wont get charge an arm and a legLoves Saving Money.
Though much prefer making it
