Good morning all! Haven't had a chance to read through, so hope everyone's ok - hugs to any that need them (well most people could do with a hug I reckon!)

Have just been to S**nsb*rys and spent £2.65 on milk, apples and onions. Ordered more stores from App Food last night for £16.94, so have spent £23.65 so far this month, leaving me £16.35.

    Totally do-able!

Am returning to Sains again this afternoon (it's only just along the road now they've built a new one) - this time to do a 2hr stint collecting for the Food Bank. There are always people worse off than ourselves.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • Ohhhhh lordy .... my freezer is still ridiculously full:o - I've just about had to empty a whole drawer to get at the Cornish pastie's that I knew were lurking in there somewhere (one of those, I know what I want and nothing else will do moments!) - should've done it earlier as tummy rumbling and they take 30 mins from frozen:eek:

Sainsbobs basics Beef & veg ones which I've not tried before so fingers crossed .....

However, it has renewed my determination to seriously not spend a lot this month and no meat whatsoever!

I can vouch for their passata which is about 59p for a one litre large container. The brand on it is XXL Nostia. It's nice and thick and I am tempted to get 6 of them if they have them still!

They were still in my L1dl yesterday - just a fairly small display now, though, but still 59p. I haven't tried this passata before, but got one yesterday as am going to make tomato soup tomorrow for work lunches. Good to know it's going to tasty :)...probably should have bought more :o

I'm gradually working my way through trying lots of L1dl things and have just tried their luxury creamy coleslaw (about 69p for 500g)...not bad at all. I added a little grated cheese to it on my plate and it was delish...much cheaper then anything else I've seen for the size of the carton, and easily "tarted up" to make it taste more expensive, though it doesn't need anything added if you don't want to.

    I haven't been disappointed with anything I've tried from L1dl :T

For anyone interested, The Snail on Sunday will have a £5 off £25 M%S voucher this Sunday. It's on the discount vouchers page but we are all so busy we sometimes miss these.

    SL

And just seen that the s*n on sunday has £5 off a £40 Horrorsons spend.

Thank you to everyone on here who has got me baking again. This morning I did the spicy fruit loaf in the breadmaker. The smell of it made me feel a bit nibbly and I remembered that we've had a box of granola getting in the way for a few months (no-one liked it and I couldn't throw it away). So made granola bars with that, some rice crispies and some date syrup that's been in the back of the cupboard for yonks. Wow, they are yum.

Going to a friend's for dinner tonight but sadly we drank the bottle of wine we were supposed to take! Well, it had been a hard day at work/with the kids yesterday! So will send dh to Mr M later for another.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.:D

Hi Kittywight:wave:, don't feel you have to wait, just set a target for the rest of March and jump right in!

The only things we didn't like were the rye crispbreads and the cimarosa australian chardonnay 2011. Honestly, we will drink any old wine but this was truly bad. Weird as the cimarosa chilean cabernet sauvignon is great.

I'd love to know how much money I've saved by doing the bulk of my shopping at !id!:j

  • Local Mr T had over ordered their half price chickens this week so there were loads in the whoopsie section this morning. Not marked down to silly prices, but still picked up a 1.8kg bird for about £2.50 which is a nice saving. :j

Total spend £29.80. This includes about a month's worth of breakfast stuff though and the chicken has gone into the freezer as this week's meals are already planned.

Haven't caught up on posts yet, hope everyone is well!

Hi everyone, just totalled up spends through the week and they come to £29.49 so that leaves me £300.20.

I haven't been for a shop this week and I am going to try and buy very little and use what I've got.

I need to get some motivation though as I really can't be bothered cooking. I am going to switch computer off and go and prepare something or I will end up buying a takeaway and that means less dollars for the hols.
  • A new experience for me today - my DS2 had made biscuits this week at school and they tasted just like shortbread. So I used the same ingredients and along with his instructions made some at home :T. They taste lovely and for the cost of about 60p I made 15 biscuits so this will save me money on the shortbread I have been buying - this is the only biscuit I really eat. I'm definitely going to do them again as it only took me 10 minutes and I had the oven on anyway to cook pasties for lunch.

I used 150g Plain flour, 100g butter, 50g caster sugar. Sifted flour into bowl with sugar and rubbed in butter to make a crumbly mixture. Added in tiny bit of water so I could make the mixture into a dough-like ball, then rolled it out and cut out shapes using a pastry cutter. Cooked in oven for about 12 minutes at 180 degrees.

Spent a whopping £60.10 today but £40 odd of that was petrol, which I count in this budget and food shopping is pretty much the only thing I use the car for these days. Even so, £40 was just for 3/4 tank for a midget vehicle and although it will last a good few weeks, it has rather crept up on me.

I went shopping later than usual as I had visitors earlier and the whole experience was three times as difficult as going in around 9am. The traffic is much heavier, queues longer and no whoopsies left in Al*i and L*dl. I am enjoying the 69p pineapples from Al*i and got a couple more, and pretty much all of the food I bought today is fresh fruit and veg and milk. I can live out of the freezer for fish and meat when I eat it.

Off to make some celery soup now as for one person a head would never get used up. I think I will add some curry powder to liven it up a bit. Maybe some carrot and coriander as well and that's a few quick meals done for the week. I seem to be mainly surviving on pitta bread filled with tuna flakes and salad at the moment as I have given up meat for Lent, not out of any religious conviction but more of a general discipline. I can't say I have overly missed it, but it is a bit limiting when eating out of the freezer.

There are three more food shops this month so I shall have to tread carefully and keep using up store cupboard items where possible.
