the result -Gas central heating - Cheaper to leave on constant ..almost
Options
This winter i done an experiment with the gas.
Last year i use to get in and turn the gas on, and when it was warm enough, switch it off..then when it got chilly see how long we could last and then switch it on...till about 9.30pm ..wore jumpers and used throws (blankets)
This year i thought, sod it and kept it at a low temperature (t-shirt comfy) for about 7 hours and even more on weekends..
so when i got my bill today I thought it would be sky high...
however -drum roll- its exactly the same...What..i couldnt believe it...me walking around in a tshirt.. and my bills the same as last year..
so the question
Is it cheaper to leave your gas central heating on all the time (on a low temperature) or switch it off and turn it back on when you need it?
answer NO... THE SAME.. the proof
heres my bill

Proof? Really?
Wasn't last winter just about the coldest on record, and this winter one of the mildest?
The Utility companies are all saying that their profits are down because far less gas has been used because of the mild weather. I have used about 20% less gas this winter.0 -

It is nice to see that some can beat the laws of Physics.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I agree with Cardew
my usage for this winter (well from 1st January) is just over 20% less than the same period last year too.
Edit: the biggest difference though was in the October to January usage... In 2010: 2832kwh and in 2011: 916kwh :rotfl:Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

Erm, that would be because this winter has been much warmer than last year...therefore your boiler doesn't need to burn through as much gas to heat up your place... So yes, you had the heating on more this year and used the same amount of gas as last year but it's not a fair comparison given the difference in outdoor temp between last year and this year. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

.the pump could could just be on ...so if the room is at the required temp ..then the pump just works, no gas ...yawn“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Comfortable enough to wear a tee shirt isn't really a low temperature.0

Heating with no gas
You cannot get better than that.
A thermostat is a component of a control system which senses the temperature of a system so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired setpoint. The thermostat does this by switching heating fuel which is gas on and off, and regulating the flow of a heat transfer fluid by a pump as needed, to maintain the correct temperature. The name is derived from the Greek words thermos "hot" and statos "a standing"
and also the word n.o.b also come the person ariba off the mse forum“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
