My daughter has this virus in her laptop, it was identifiied by a free check by a well known virus blocker who then wanted loads of money for the software to get rid of it. It opens many pop ups and windows when she starts up Interner explorer ( about - blank is one of them)- she is running w****ws 98 I have downloaded loads of free software that is supposed to blast this type of worm but as yet none of them see it. I can even see it in my program files and when I try to delete it it says - can't delete as its being used by a windows programme - the only one running is the one needed to run windows and I can't shut that down. Can anyone suggest anything I am going mad trying to delete it and my daughter is going mad not being able to use her pc properly. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

What have you tried?

Very long shot, but have you tried logging on as another user (admin) and seeing if it will delete, also have you tried deleting from safe mode?

try downloading AVG 7 from WWW.grisoft.com and run that....it has a virus/trojan vault that can lock away anything it cannot delete, it will also run in dos if you make a boot disk and run it direct (windows not running !) and it is free

before you try the dos run though try the following

go to control panel and choose internet options. under "temporary internet files" hit "delete files" and wait until it has finished

install AVG, then let the PC reboot and clean up if it can...

Did you try the free version of AVG? I've never used ut but its meant to be good.

everything really loads of blasters - very new to all this and unsure as to what I am doing one more thing though can anyone tell me how to do a system restore(its for a different PC)

Trying it now thanks - she also has the spyware about-blank in her PC I have tried looking on google for a blaster for it but none seem to be free do you know of any free ones?
