Hi all,
Just planning my first ever trip to the US - staying in San Francisco 5-20 November.
Is it worth me waiting a while to book my flights - the price has been static for the last week and I don't know when is best to book - help needed please!
Thanks
Alun

Direct to SFO "should" be about £400 max at that time of year so IMHO I'd wait a while.
Airlines usually have reasonable fares for that time of year at about end of August.0 -
Much appreciated - was thinking anything below £500 would be OK - I'll definitely hang on though.
Thanks0 -
20 November is close to Thanksgiving, not sure what demand will be like on SFO-UK flights.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I dont think you will do much better for a direct flight and there is a real danger it will go up. Things are a far cry from only two years ago when a direct flight to SFO could be had for £350. By the way,if your staying in SFO for all your stay, you might want to reconsider as more than 4 days in SFO would be enough for most.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Obviously fuel and APD prices could rocket before Nov (APD is supposedly going up in April) but I seriously doubt the OP couldn't get a lower price if he waits until about 3 months out.
WHY?
1 )The op is going at a "quiet" time-after Columbus day-before Thanksgiving and during UK school term.
So lower demand should get lower prices.
2.)The destination has several major carriers flying to it (BA, Virgin, AA) and it's also easy to get indirect flights wich is usually cheaper with the likes of Delta etc. So with lots of choice I'd expect lower prices.
3.) The destintion also has three aiports- OAK can be used for one of the legs of an indirect flight. So another possible low cost option.
4.) Virgin have added a second daily flight to that route so there may be extra capacity (lower prices) in these quieter months.
I could be wrong but TBHO there are plenty of +ve (past history )indicators that I could be right.:cool:0 -
Thanks again for the replies.
It's sort of why I picked the dates - just after school holidays and going back before thanksgiving. Oh, and I'm sure I'll find plenty to do in the 2 weeks I'm there - after all, it's my first time to the US!0 -
Be warned that it'll probably be chilly, the Bay area doesn't get the same sort of Californian weather as LA does. As Mark Twain is often quoted as having said: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" (although I suspect if he did say it he was exaggerating for effect!).0

I must admit that a lot of people have said that - but whenever I read about the weather in SF - it mostly says things like this...
Fall in San Francisco
September-November
Fall in San Francisco is truly the best time of year for weather. Days are warm and sunny, sometimes blisteringly so, and nights are mild and clear. Rainfall is rare, the fog has cleared and the long warming process has reached its magnificent zenith, making September, October and early November the three best months to visit San Francisco.
I'm not expecting miracles, but I'm expecting UK June type weather
