My suggestion is that you can go to a real store to choose one instead of searching it online. I have the experience that ring's pictures online are not very true plus the size.

Thanks, yes I'm planning to go into town today. However, my original question was - where might I go to find a nice, inexpensive ring?

I think Tesco and Asda do jewellery now. You could start there.

Is he going to wear it together with his wedding ring once you get married? Won't that look a bit gay? :D

The whole idea sounds a bit gay to me... especially with a diamond in the ring.

Depends on the ring of course. My husband wears a diamond ring on his wedding finger and i can assure you, he isnt gay and doesnt look gay either.

  • I proposed to my husband. I've never quite understood why, in this age, women still have to wait to be "chosen", and I preferred to be the one who "chose" him! (Completely understand others' feelings on this one - it's a personal thing).

Anyway, my husband is half Irish, and I bought him a Claddagh ring. It was 120GBP, 9 ct gold, and I bought it from a local jewelers in Hull (where my family are from).

I highly recommend talking to a local independent jeweler who has been in the business for a while and can direct you to something within budget. All the big chains have much higher costs and overheads to cover (admin staff, HR, SAP systems, head offices, larger staff, high street rents), and this all goes on the price of the jewellery.

Someone local typically will have lower overheads, and will be happy to help you find the item you want, and definitely be more willing to negotiate vs a large company with defined procedures and systems for discounting.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks all. I've now bought a nice titanium ring (no stone, so no 'gayness' at all!) and for only £19! I feel a bit stingy but it's a nice ring and hopefully he'll like it too.
As for wearing it with his wedding ring when we get married, that'll be up to him but I have a friend who's husband wore a ring as an engagement ring but then got a weeding ring when they got married, he sometimes wears both and no-one could ever look at him and think 'gay'. I think when you're secure in your sexuality, looking 'gay' or even being bothered if you do, isn't an issue.

When my husband asked me to marry him, he proposed with a "temporary" ring and then we went shopping for my engagement ring and we got him an engagement ring too. :D We have alot of equality in our relationship and we couldn't see why men don't usually get an engagement ring. When we got married, he replaced it with his wedding ring and now his engagement ring is somewhere safe. :)
