in Credit cards
Sorry if this sort of thread gets done often, but after reading through some of Martin's pages on applying for credit cards, I was just wondering if I could get some answers for my specific situation.
I moved over from Australia back in July, been there all my life but my father was born here, so here on my British passport.
Got a bank account with Lloyds, have occasionaly gone overdrawn (part of the reason I want a credit card), but the fees have always been paid. Started off with relatively small balance (hence going overdrawn), but within the last few months we've manage to save up a nice buffer. At the moment we (my partner and I) have about £1500 in our savings account as well as money getting rotated around our other two Lloyds account. We've obviously managed to avoid going overdrawn of late.
We rent with tenancy being in my girlfriends name. Pay this monthly no problem.
Internet is in my name, always paid off by DD on time. Electricity in our name, always paid off early. Water bill in both names, one bill was paid late (first bill - TBH we didn't know what to expect and it was a bit higher than we had budgeted).
Council tax we've paid late a couple of times, but now like our bank account we've gotten it under control, like our bank account situation and won't be paid late again.
Now I'm guessing our savings back in Australia (about 25,000AUD) will be completly ignored.
Now, does anyone know if we have any chance of getting a credit card. Tried our bank back in Jan (we did wait till we were in a better financial position) but they said so, wait till we've been here longer. Would any other company likely offer us credit cards? Wanna get a bit of an idea first so I don't have too many rejected applications on my file.
Any help is appreciated. Ta

Savings are ALWAYS ignored when applying for credit.
Since you've not really got a history in the UK I'd say apply for a Vanquis & Capital One Classic (you may get accepted for the Secured)0 -

Hey everyone. Thanks for the replies. Figured savings might not be considered, but figured at least with Lloyds they may be able to see I've now got the money. Obviously not.
And as far as bills go, I've no longer falling behind. Only the first few I fell behind. Been clean for the last few months. Realise I should've taken a bit more out of my savings in Australia, but already made a big dint in them when moving over here and wanted to see that living here was going to be sustainable.
That and I'm currently earning over 6% on my Aussie savings for what is close to zero risk.0 -
Lloyds won't consider you for credit until you have been here a minimum of 3 years.0

Thanks for letting me know that, I wish they could've told me.
When I first went in, I realised I was still down as unemployed on their system. The lady updated it for me and said she would call me in a couple of days to let me know. She never called me so I went in. She just told me I had been declined. After some prodding, she explained it was as I hadn't been here long enough (which I figured), but if I wait a little longer that may change - although she couldn't give me a concrete time scale, leaving me with the feeling that she didn't know much either.0 -
Been in the UK for a little under 18 months and Lloyds have given me their platinum BT card with a 2k limit.0

I too would suggest Capital, Vanquis or Aqua. I know how frustrating it can be with bank credit cards. I'm sure my bank actually want blood with the application! Good luck any ways0
