The experienced sellers on here often tell us that tracking is of little concern to the buyer ; it is to protect the seller from postal loss or charlatan buyers. The buyer gains nothing and has therefore lost nothing. Seems the OP has found a charlatan0

not really
many people think RD is a premium/faster/more secure service
it may have been a factor to the buye on purchase
such as sometimes I will select a seller who states 1st class over one who states standard postage0 -

Speed of delivery is certainly a benefit to buyer so standard instesd of 1st would be a loss to buyer. But RD doesn't go faster than 1st so the RD part is irrelevent to buyer assuming it was sent 1st not RD0 -

you're telling me stuff I know
I said many people think
ergo its a factor in their choice of seller0 -
Someone who doesn't read eBay forums would not know the difference between RD, Special Delivery, and the defunct Registered post.
I certainly sent a number of mid-range items I sold RD before I realised there was no particular benefit either to me or the buyer.
The OP advertised a service and didn't use it - always something dangerous to do."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Never heard of this one before - its a new scam on me.
'Item not as described' refers to the item itself surely - and any postage issues are for the star ratings.
I oten do this error. I list soemthing with recorded, then a few weeks later i 'sell a similar item' - but then forget to remove the recorded mail. If i notice it, i do send it recorded - just so the buyer can't moan. It feels daft though , if the item only sells for a few quid. But now i know its the best way - as ebay buyers are looking for any excuse for a freebie.
Offer a refund on return. Then it will cost them. Of course, they wont accept it and will probably trash your stars. But a moron like this probably will anyway. Don't forget to tell them they must use recorded mail :-)0 -
Never having any intention of using it,whether charged for or not it is deceiving the buyer. The OP advertised a service and didn't use it - always something dangerous to do.
Seller now has unhappy buyer thinking he's ripped me off 77p do that x10 and its £7.70.the idea was to state recorded even when not intending to use (& not charged for) to deter people who might be inclined to claim non delivery but its backfired
Solution is to refund the 77p,and not do it again, next time could well be INR.
Ok seller wont make anything but he is at fault, will probably get neg/neut and stars bashed anyway.0 -
By rights he is due a refund because you have stated a postal service that you didnt use. That postal service costs 77p. 77p of the money he gave you was not used for what he thought it would be used for.Inigo_Montoya wrote: »yes i agree its self inflicted - its a long time (years) since Ive sold any significant number if items on ebay so Im going through a learning curve

I'm most interested in hearing from anybody who has had the same type of claim - for example should i cut & paste the meesage he sent me stating the item WAS as described into the paypal response box
He could win a SNAD as the SNAD applies to the listing and not the item. Your listing said one thing, he got something different.
It is not his fault that noone else bid on your item. It is not his fault that you started the listing at 1p.
If postage was charged at £1.77 (for arguments sake) he should get 77p back.0
