Manager docked wages

Today I have had my wages docked. Not by a lot.
3 people work in the shop, and about 3 months ago and order was placed online for an item which was dispatched 3 days ago as it was on "back order" (the customer agreed)
yesterday the customer phoned up and said he had telephoned the cancel the item 2 months ago. (nobody in the shop remembers this)
so basically my manager has blamed me as I was the one that dispatched the item (and he automatically assumes i took the phone call when i know for a fact i didn't) and has docked me all out of pocket costs for refunding this man out of my wages. (£10)
I don't know what to do, its not like I can just get it back, and a tribunal would be pointless as it would take so long and its not for a high amount.
its made me very sad.

Can't the shop just return the item or resell it?

It's the postage costs that we have to refund that he deducted, not the product costs.
Also its standard distance selling; return within 7 days.

What is in your contract regarding deduction from wages.
If nothing, itis against the lawmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Illegal deduction from wages,
Discuss, go over their head, they have excedded their authority, grieivance, ET
if you think it is worth bothering.
Introduce a new process,
Insist the manager approves all dispached from now on.
There is the chance the customer is just using this as an excuse and never phoned or actualy spoke to the manager has anyone checked with the customer if they remeber who they spoke to?0 -
This deduction may be unlawful. Statutory deductions aside, your employer can only do this if your contract allows for it (and you are aware of this provision), or you explicitly agree beforehand and in writing to the deduction.
Ask the employer under which of the above he acted, and to then return your wages - as an aside has this deduction taken you below NMW?
There are rules for shop workers beyond the above...If your employer has reached agreement with you, either in writing or in your contract, that a deduction can be made for shortages, then s/he must:- notify you in writing of the total amount owed before taking any money;
- make a demand in writing for payment on a pay day;
- any demand must not exceed 10% of the gross amount of that pay packet because of shortages, although similar deductions can be made from future pay packets.

At least you know where you stand, nothing tastes as bad has having your loyalty thrown back in your face.
Perhaps this is a turning point you can benefit from, realise that loyalty to bosses is a dead cause and take any job that pays more than you are getting.
