What kind of holiday do you think you would enjoy? Do you like your own company? Are there hobbies or interests you can use to maybe go on say a walking holiday or a painting or cookery break? I think the first time would be daunting unless you are used to travelling alone, maybe go on a short break see how you like it?0

When away on my own I tend to do exactly the same thing I would do with my husband. That would include sightseeing, walking, eating out, going to the theatre/cinema etc.
What sort of holidays do you like?0 -
Some people have a thing about not holidaying on their own. Personally it doesn't bother me if I am on my own or have company.
One of the better holidays I had was making the train journey from London to Budapest. I met so many interesting people. Pick somewhere in Europe you have always wanted to visit and instead of flying go by train.
Another suggestion would be to go on some kind of activity holiday based on something you enjoy doing, or would like to learn.
Worst thing you can do is go and stay on your own in a hotel. People don't mix in hotels and your sense of isolation will be heightened.0 -
I can imagine this is really difficult for you, but see if you can picture yourself doing various things and see how you feel about them, if that makes sense. For example, if you really enjoyed a holiday with your husband in a particular place, would it be awful to go back without him, or would you enjoy it again, and talk to him about it? (No, that's not mad, it's normal.
) or was there somewhere you always talked about going to, and never did, and could you go on your own and tell him all about it? (see above)
My never married friends get up to all sorts of things! Sometimes they go with each other, sometimes they go alone on organised tours, sometimes they just go and visit friends / family. Depends on their interests.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I don't mind my own company - it is the travelling arrangements I am going to find scary as he took care of that (he was really good at planning holidays).
I like the idea of the train - will look into that one!
I thought of joining ramblers this summer - I enjoy walking but am really unfit - husband couldn't walk far0 -

Also look at http://walkingwomen.com/ - I subscribe to their newsletter but have never been on a holiday with them so cannot comment.
Looks like fun though.:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Just You is a company which specializes in singles holidays. My friend has been with them and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Tours may be good as people tend to mix anyway. We like Archers Direct, always interesting.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

'Just You' and 'Travelone' do holidays for single travellers. Some are resort based and some are tours with a tour manager. I have used both and found them excellent. Fellow travellers tend to be 'older' (40+) but lively and they are deffo not 'singles holidays' iykwim
