Housing Benefit

Why do you refer to your home as a "fleapit" - if it is, how can you expect anyone else to want to buy/rent it?0

Just a quick update for those ones who made silly statements previously.
As it happens I've lived quite successfully in my new rented accommodation and I've had help in the form of housing benefit and tax credits. I won't be doing this for long, my wife and I still pay lots of tax and my personal ethics will make sure that the state doesn't suffer for choosing to help me.
I love socialism - people need to be less greedy.
For future reference, those ones who made nasty comments about me - nur nur nur. Hope you learn to get your fact straight before casting judgement and I hope you learn to read soon.0 -
It took you almost a year to come and brag about it???
And how long is not long?0 -

Totally agree.....my personnal pet hate is benefit claimants who claim poverty to gain help in the form of housing benefit but are able to afford holidays to places like....America and purchase things like laptops while they are there. Doesn't it just annoy you!:)0 -
It wasn't until 2/3rds of the way through this thread that the OP told us he has a wife. Then he says they are both paying lots of tax, so presumably they are both working. Up to then I had assumed this was a "single parent" situation.
I don't see how they can qualify for housing benefit or council tax benefit with two tax-paying earners in the household.
But if that's how it works then so be it. Weird system though.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Sounds to me like a total bulls4it thread, no mention anywhere of getting permission to rent out off the mortgage company or changing to a buy to let mortgage.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

This thread sums up why I am so fed up with this country.
Poor me my house is not big enough, poor me im in a low paid job, poor me blah blah blah do something about it or stop having kids, simple really
The OP pays plenty of tax but is by his own admission in a low paid job and qualifies for housing benefit?0 -
I am taking what OP says with a pinch of salt.... both initial and latter contribution...0

I wanted to add to this in case anyone reads this thread actually looking for advice (as opposed to a lecture on an individuals personal views on the benefits system).
I own a house with an ex partner, there is approximately £3000 equity in it, on a property that is valued at £250000 after we've paid fees we will be in negative equity. He refused to leave the property when we split so I left with my son, the property is not on the market, it is being dealt with by solicitors. As a student studying for a degree and a single parent I received hb and ctb for the duration of my degree, so owning a house does not mean you can not claim assistance with housing.
I think the application forms can be confusing so it's always worth speaking direct to an adviser.0
