It sounds like a profile problem. However may I suggest working through the Firefox standard diagnostic to properly identify the problem..

It seems that the recent upgrade to FF has given a different way to delete bookmarks as show on the page I have linked to in post #11, am not to keen on the work involved in your link:eek: so for the time being I think I will leave as is, I can delete the error 404 by moving the bookmark to a folder in bookmarks and deleting from there.

I'm not really sure why you can't just right click on a bookmark and delete it, I've just done it and it worked fine. I can only think it's an issue relating to the use of XP, have you thought about getting an Operating System that was developed less than 10 years ago?

    I beg to differ:

I've got an ageing desktop (1.2 MHz Duron) Running XP Service Pack 3 (April 21st 2008). Firefox 10.0.2 works just fine, including deleting bookmarks and up-to-date favicons.

The OS has nothing to do with this problem. Look at it another way, if there was a conflict between the latest Firefox and XP the likes of Google (Chrome) and Microsoft (Internet Exploder) would be shouting it from the rooftops.

As I said in my OP, "I also cannot delete any of these bookmarks by right clicking and selecting delete or cut,".

And in my post #8 "It is not greyed out, it just won't delete, just stays highlighted." Although it does alternate between greyed out and highlighted but doing nothing.

For the last few weeks I have been getting a pop up saying this version, (3.6.27), is not supported, so as the deleting bookmarks problem started I updated to the latest, 10.0.2 thinking it may resolve the issue, but it didn't.

In my reply #3 I have said,"When I click on "check for updates" it informs me "Firefox is up to date"."
