Price difference for venue between weekdays and weekends?

Good Morning All

My partner and I have booked to go and look at the registry office and the possible reception venue next weekend. We have yet to finalise a date for the wedding and would like either a Friday or a Saturday if possible.

However I am reading that there are huge price differences between week days and weekends so we wondered whether anyone could give us an indication of what kind of difference to expect?

We are not looking for a wedding breakfast so that may ease things slightly. We just want a late afternoon ceremony followed by a party in a nice hotel in the evening.

Thank you. :)

  • Not sure what the 'average' would be, but our venue (hotel) was 10% cheaper for non-Saturday weddings. Hope that helps!

I doubt there will be a norm - everything is cheaper on a weekday, sometimes Fridays aren't that much cheaper as obviously this is when the weekend starts. There are huge variations between the 'wedding season' and popular dates than say a November wedding.
The advice I would give is make sure you are happy with the day - don't forget a week day wedding MAY affect who can come - and then haggle on the price once you have decided on a place. The registrar wont alter their prices, but you can haggle on just about everything else.

  • Thanks Ladies. Much appreciated. :) It's actually a November date we are looking at.

Well you should find prices fairly reasonable (In comparison to say July!) then. I personally would steer away from a week wedding unless you really have to, just because it is nice to make a weekend of it. Not ver MSE, but I think there are moments in life when being MSE is less important!

  • I'm thinking the same. It was only that we're budgeted just like everyone else so I wondered if having a weekday affair would mean we could splash out in other areas. Having said that, the biggest priority is having everyone there we want to see so a weekend would be more allowing for that.

It was most important to us too. You will probably find other places to maximise your budget, everyone on here is very good at finding alternatives or suggesting cheaper ways of doing it. Just don't forget to haggle - even if you get free coffee's it is something!

  • I'm a sales rep so haggling should come easily but I'm usually on the other end of it lol so I best get in some practice.

I had to leave my OH to it - I can't do it at all, but he is self emplyed and getting the best price for things is vital. He got £500 off our venue, which was impressive.

We're having our wedding in july, our thursday wedding is £2500 a saturday wedding of the same would be nearly £6k. We considered our guests and we felt because some are working in schools ( holidays!) retired/shift workers and the rest will have plenty of notice for the day off. November is considered off peak so not as competitive. supply and demand!

Our venue hire is half price on a friday, also we are allowed to have a bbq where as on the sat you had to have a 3 course meal which would be a lot more expensive. Does depend on the venue but is saving us lots.
