Pre-order price increase on Amazon.co.uk

I think i am probably writing this in the wrong section but I don't know where it should be, so feel free to move.

I pre-ordered an item a month or so ago which is due for release in March from Amazon.co.uk, although not paid yet as they don't charge until dispatched.

Today I have received an email telling me that the price has gone up from £35 to £65 and they want my approval for the new price!?

I ordered at £35 so surely thats the price they should supply at? or are they allowed to change the price on pre-orders?

  • I'm not sure....I know when you pre-order something and the price goes down they have to correct that, so maybe it works the same way if it goes up?

I wouldn't be at all happy with that, why don't you give customer services a call on their freephone number Amazon Tel 0800 279 6620.

I'll be interested in the outcome as I have a book for DS on order at the moment and I assumed the price I ordered it was the price I would pay.

When I first got the email I thought I will just ignore it and let them send it then when they try and charge me £65 instead of £35 I will kick up a fuss.

But it seems that they have either temporarily cancelled my order or put my order on hold until I approve the new price so I don't have the option to just leave it and see what happens.
  • Just found this on Amazon:

    Pre-Order Price Guarantee
Amazon.co.uk may from time to time offer a Pre-Order Price Guarantee on certain items sold at Amazon.co.uk. Amazon.co.uk's price for these items may change between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. If you pre-order an item with a Pre-Order Price Guarantee, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you placed your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Please note that our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.co.uk, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.

If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price.

I'm guessing what I ordered hasn't come under the Pre-Order Price Guarantee then...

Will phone them now and let you know what they say!

I couldn't understand the person I spoke to very well. I am not sure what country he was from. I think he said he thought I should only have to pay the original price and he couldn't understand why the price had gone up so much but I'm guessing it must have been a mis-price.

He said he will email the department who deal with it to find out what is going on and he said he would contact me within 1-2 working days. He said hopefully today but if it is a big problem it is likely to be 2 working days.
  • Sounds promising, fingers crossed.

  • Actually, come to think of it, Pinkgem, if you pre-order something on Play.com, it stays at the price you have pre-ordered it at unless it goes down in price.

If they are willing to reduce certain prices under the pre-order price guarantee then surely the least they can do for pre-orders not covered by the price guarantee is let you have it for the original price you pre-ordered at

    if that makes sense

Absolutely, otherwise why advertise at a low price, take orders and then increase the price before you can deliver - doesn't make sense.
