skylight / velux window - need a pole but where?

hello all, I live in a terrace house and recently discovered the velux window (skylight) opens. Its on the top of my stairs, thought it would be great to open in the summer months when we are hot and sticky (well at least hot!!) I have seen a 3 metre rod pole for £35.00(including P&P) from amazon. anyone know of any…

Just as a matter of interest, I have a vaulted ceiling in one room of my house, which ends up about 4.5m high at the apex. There is a smoke detector placed right up there:mad:. When it started beeping for a new battery, I scratched my head about how to silence it at short notice, and eureka moment came up with the extending paint roller pole (which I had in the shed) to press the button.

Unfortunately I still need a set of 3m stepladders to change the battery ...:(
