New SIM
I recently bought my first smartphone and as my SIM card was around 8 years old, my network provider advised me to get a new SIM card.
Apparently the new 3G sims work a bit differently to the old ones and half of the phone signal is transmitted using 3G, rather than whatever method the older SIMS used.... Can anyone expand on this?
The problem I've got is when I'm having a conversation on the phone, the other person's voice appears slightly fuzzy. I can hear it ok, but it's like there's minor feedback around their voice and there's a 'haze' surrounding it, a bit like white noise. The thing is, I changed my phone and SIM card at the same time so it's not immediately clear what's to blame.
The noise only surrounds the voice of the person I'm talking to - in other words, when they stop talking, the fuzz around their voice stops. There is no fuzz/hiss on the phone line/connection itself.
I ran a system test on the phone where it plays some computer style voice down the earpiece and that sounded fine. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
EDIT - the person I'm speaking to can hear me fine, no fuzz at all.

In your handset you can try disabling 3g and it will use only 2g signal.0 -
I always thought 3G was just for data as well but the shop advisor reckoned it was used for around 50% of the voice connection too. I've got the data traffic switched off and it's made no difference to phone call quality.
I've spoken to people on landlines and mobiles and it's consistent regardless of their phone type so I can't see how otehr networks are to blame.
It is only slight, but it's obviously noticeable. Strange how it's round their voice, not all the time the call is connected. When they stop talking, there is no fuzz at all. I suppose you could say it's slight distortion/feedback in their voice.
Maybe the earpiece in this new phone is just really sensitive and picks up everything?0 -
The sim won't add "fuzz" to the call0

I wasn't so much blaming the actual SIM card itself, more the connection type that the new SIM uses. Apparently this new SIM works differently to my old SIM for voice calls (as well as data), though I'm not sure if this is fact?!0
