Buy new contract with same operator on same number (not upgrade)

Hi all,

I'm at the end of my contract with Orange and want to upgrade to the iPhone 4s. The best offer for me is via DialaPhone at £31pm. however, Orange retentions' best offer for me is £41pm...thus it makes much more sense to go via DAP.

However, if I get a new contract via DAP (with Orange), can I move my number to the new contract even though it's with the same operator?

I want to stay with Orange due to good signal where I live/work.

Ask Orange to switch you to PAYG when the minimum term ends.
Buy a new contract via d-a-p (check tcb/quidco).
can I keep my number and tariff on PAYG when I get a new phone and new SIM card?

In the worst case scenario you can port the old number out to another network PAYG sim, then back to Orange to the new contract sim.
  • I'm not sure that I've understood what you've said...wouldn't doing what you said mean my old number would then be on PAYG and a new number on Contract? I would like to keep the old number on the contract.

After you've move your old number to payg and you've a new number on contract you move the playg number back to the contract...

What you want to do is called a 'back door upgrade' (getting a new customer deal while being an existing customer) the networks don't like people doing that so don't make it as simple as just allowing you to move your number in one go.
  • Ok, I think I understand...so does the PAYG need to be on a different network?

They would until you 'transfer' the old number to the contract (or 'port' it via another network).

Do you ralise that the third line was a link?

No, it doesn't - if I understand correctly what I see on Orange website. Otherwise (worst case scenario) you will need to do this in two steps by porting with using PAC.
