Good place to buy a Mattress

I was wondering whether people had advice on buying mattresses? I have had a look at Freemans and some of them seem reasonable. Also I need a new mattress for myself and have a bad back usually when I wake up - any ideas?!

My personal experience has been to trawl through some of the High Street bed stores, finding out which mattresses are suitable for me and noting their make/style number.

I then trawl the web and have used Mattressman and Sleeping Solutions in the past with wholly positive experiences from both :)

I would go to high street stores and test each matress, especially if you have a bad back. You spend a good proportion of your life in bed, so it's more important to buy something comfortable and back friendly, than to save a few pounds!
Here I go again on my own....
  • If you have a bad back, as I do, I would definately recommend trying a mattress out before buying. Do you collecet Tesco clubcard vouchers? You could turn them into Deals tokens and go to MFI!

Buy the best you can afford, not something worth scrimping on, definately try before buying as they can range from rock hard to soft as mush.

Many are described as ortho - not sure what this actually means ie. if a matress has to have certain features to be described as ortho or if it can just be applied to any matress.

We have just bought a mattress from https://www.mattressman.co.uk

I have to say we were absolutely delighted with the service, the price and the quality of the product.

They delivery next day but you can choose your day of delivery for up to 2 weeks in advance I think. They deliver before 1pm.

The mattress itself is twice as thick as my daughter's previous mattress and is soooo comfy I actually thought about swapping rooms with her!! :rotfl:

We are considering a new mattress as ours is over 10 years old now and is starting to get very uncomfortable and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Obviously you would need to do some research first to see which mattress would be most suitable for you, but this company is ideal if you already know what you want.

  • My mum suffers from a bad back and also has spondylitis. I bought her an orthopaedic matress and she loves it! I bought 1 for myself too! The guy below sells all kinds of matresses from really low budget matresses to really expensive ones!

If you live in Kent, Essex or the South side of London, try this guy Brett:

    http://www.bargainbedskent.co.uk/

He brought lots of matresses to my mum's house for her to try before we bought an matress from him. He also took the old matress away. He said that if I mention him to any of my friends he will offer them a discount, so if you contact him, let him know that "Vijay" put you in touch with him! :j :D

As I understand it, applied to mattresses, "orthopaedic" is just a psuedo- medical marketing term, Otherwise it's meaningless.

I read this on a website online:

    "mattress firmness
The firmness of the support provided by a bed base can be further adjusted by the firmness of the mattress used in combination with that base. Mattresses come in four grades of firmness: medium, medium firm, firm and extra firm (sometimes call ‘orthopaedic’)."

    another purcahse froom mattressman.

went through quidco too for a good discount 6%

i bought a memory foam one, which recconmended and have to say its niiiice :)
i would personally not reccomend an orthopedic one, as they are usually too hard. you need to get one that supports but does not sag, which is why i went for the memory foam, which for me has mean that i dont get a sore shoulder...
