what utter nonsense, nothing can be done with a sort code and account number, bar set up a direct debit, which if the customer hasn't authorised would be fraud.

I know from experience that with HSBC, santander and RBS that when you cancel a card no further payments will come from that card.

Or are you suggesting that the bank will leave themselves and their customers open to fraud from the continued use of a cancelled card?

why is this continued to be posted be select members on this forum?

Some payday loan companies do take money direct from people's bank accounts (not from the card) once someone has cancelled their card. There are numerous examples of it having happened to people. Some payday loan companies write it in to the T&Cs that they can take funds by other methods.

I am unaware of anyone who this has happened to actually challenging the agreement in court or with the FOS, but in the short and desperate time period that people post on here asking for advice its best to make them aware that this can happen - otherwise they to, like others previous, could end up with no money to buy food or pay rent etc.

i have had some advise to pay off the debts with a 15 month 0% credit card (so i get lower monthly repayments until such time that i can increase them before the 0% period is up to avoid further debt) im sure most would advise against it, but this could potenitally protect my credit rating if i ensure i keep up with payments.....??

I suspect from what you have posted so far that you would struggle to get accepted for a 0% credit card, unless you already have one?
If you apply now a potential lender will see several payday loans and possibly an unauthorised overdraft.

I am afraid you're wrong on this, as very many posts here will testify. People report their card lost or stolen, but PDL companies are still able to raid the account.

cancelling the card doesnt cancel the continuing payment authority.

which is why companies can continue to take the money.

buuger all to do with having an account number and sort code.

you have to tell the bank direct that you withdraw your permission for them to pay out on the authority.

you have a right set in law to do this.

if the bank refuses they are in breach of the The Payment Services Regulations 2009 and the bank becomes liable for the now unathorized payments.

You put 'lol' at the beginning of your initial post, as quoted in my initial response.
I would like to let you know that i am not suggesting that the fact i repaid it on return means anything, obviously i did in order for it to snowball, i was pointing out that in one of my posts earlier i clarified that the wonga loan was not taken out to pay for my holiday, days before our departure, my spening money for the self catering holiday was fraudulantly removed from my account as my card had been copied. This meant i had no money to spend on holiday, as i was due to be paid days after our return, i took out a wonga loan. Had my partner not left home (and left me with unpaid debts) i would have immediately repaid and never gone near the awful site again, however he did leave, and on repaying the loan amount initially taken, i had to immediately take out a subsequent loan to enable me to pay my rent. As mentioned above, my outgoings exceeded incomings, meaning i could not afford to go a month without a pdl.
Yes, everyone is free to comment, but personally, i have read some stories where i may think, 'that was a bit silly' but personally, i would not comment, as people in dire debt really do not need to hear it. Your views are your views, but i requested advise from people who have a better understanding than me.

I can see your situation has got worse and worse.

But.... I used a pay day loan once when my wages were late going in. The company one of the two you have mentioned paid me the money fast and i paid it back as soon as my wages came in. It has to be noted that these are a temporary measure and should not be used to sort an ongoing situation unless you are able to pay the fees plus the amount back.

No payday loan company have to accept a payment you offer. At the end of the day any person that takes out the loan is stating they will have the money to pay back plus the interest.

I find it increasingly frustrating that so many people take out these loans and then they don't have the funds (amazing amount of lost cards and fraudulent transactions on peoples accounts!) to pay them back but they also have a run of different pay day loans all at once! There is no way the average person could pay many payday loans back in one month and not suffer financially.

I am not saying this is your situation at all; but what would people have done before payday loans? They haven't been around for a long time in the scheme of things.

If used correctly and in line with the contact that the client signs they are excellent SHORT TERM assistance for those in need. I have two friends that work for payday loan companies and when I hear about some of the situations such as being on a Debt Management Plan and then taking out a loan then saying they can not pay it back and wondering why they are being threatened with fraud, I can't help thinking they are not being used for what they are indended for.

I know, myself I have been up the creek with out a paddle with money and I have learnt so much. Get calling CCCS who are free and get this looked at. If you go to a profit making company, you might not get offers accepted because your paying a fee.

    Good luck. :j

Hayley , it is not personal on here but when you have seen the things we have seen on here you get a bit numb to it all and maybe at times we forget that there is a real person behind the words.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Hi Hayley. Just try and pick out the good advice from all the posts as some people will definitely wind you up - deliberately or not. I had my first post yesterday and had the same situation.
I wish you the best of luck with your problems and deep breaths x

You don't have to explain or justify yourself to anyone on here. Its your business what has happened in your life.

Please think carefully before entering a DMP.

You will have to include all your debts including your bank loan which you have said is up to date. You will also have to change banks and will more than likely get defaults on your credit file.

Not meaning to be nosey but isn't there anyone who can lend you the money to pay Wonga till you get straight?
