No sun & the giddy height of 12 degrees here at 1pm.

There are a number of missing pet web sites, alfie.
If you Google for "missing pets uk" they'll come up.
Another alternative would be to contact your local radio or newspaper to let them know you've found a dog. They often put the word out.

The trouble is that so many people are now dumping animals because they've found they cost more than they can afford. Let's hope yours isn't one of those & that there's a good owner out there looking for it.

    rozeepozee

I inherited a plot over 15 years ago and basically it was all a££e about face.

All the permanent planting is on the south end of the plot so the north end is open to the winds from the north, east and west winds and the other end is extremely sheltered. Since t'ctte got busy enforcing a (not yet adopted) Council rule on not growing trees that do not bear fruit and re-instated some paths (which meant ripping out the fruit bushes that had been planted on the edge of plots) it has become even more exposed.

In June I can literally go from sweltering in a strappy vest/Tshirt at the south end to putting on a long-T as a walk back up the path and need a fleece to work the north end where the wind is blowing.

I am starting to plant trees and fruit bushes at the north end where they will give me some shelter and when they grow will rip out the old ones at the other end. I am also holding on to a couple of strips of useless raspberry canes which filter the wind a bit.

I seem to remember that your field is south-ish facing and the house is near the lower part of the field? If you are going to put in any sort of orchard or soft fruit, place that at the north end of your field near the hedge, with the fruit bushes south of the trees. You mentioned that it is rather wet? If so put apples on MM106 as that copes better with wet ground.

Might be worth checking whether the land near the south hedge is a frost pocket? Also the land behind the house (north side) has limited use as food growing space so stick things like sheds in there? Any greenhouse/tunnel needs to be fairly near the house not tucked in the shadow of the house of trees.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

That's a super happy ending story, Alfie. So good that both dogs came to no harm and that the owners weren't frantic for days. :A (Wine will come in handy too, I expect!)

Well I had a look at monster mower and saw it was a special bolt that was missing, so then it was search the area I'd cut. With the grass dry and partly mulched, it wasn't too long before I found it, and the washer. There are plenty of nuts around here!

So, we were back up and running by the afternoon, apparently none the worse, and the orchard was cut in about 40 minutes. :D As we shall soon have another 1/4 acre under grass, having the right tools to deal with it is so important. The other bit is having the weather, of course.

Lots of apple blossom out here now, but still very few bees. :(

Alls well that ends well :j

Still not that many bees but a lot of Queen wasps. You can see, and hear, them chewing the surface of fence posts to make pulp for their nests.

Had a Penblwydd Hapus and was serenaded by grandchildren, both at home and on Skype. Went to the designer outlet to buy shoes and was repulsed by the wall to wall musak and triumph of (lack of) style over substance. Grumpy old git, thats me :D

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY RHIWIE_party__party__party_

Totally agree about shops these days, its style over quality..

We have planned to stay up the farm most of the bank holiday, and they have forcased rain:mad::mad:

Pig Arc ordered and will be here next wednesday, was hoping it would have been here by the weekend, as the pig auction is a week friday, and we want to go down and buy a couple of weaners etc..

FK, even though you are not buying, it might be worth coming down there ( and meeting up) just to see what type, quality pigs are there..

Thinking about it ffairfach is saturday, so think we need to have a toddle down there too:rotfl:

I have roughtly saved a 10th of what my target is to get by the middle of July:T:T:eek::eek::D, but the guy who bought the car is dropping the money off today,

Bought some tomato plants at the smallholder show, so need to get them sorted pretty soon too
