  • If they sent the first notice to the address registered with the DVLA within 14 days, then their obligation has been met. If you failed to recieve it due to not changing the address, then that would not be a defence.

Best to post the details at http://www.pepipoo.com

A letter from local penalty office was sent to me but to the wrong address (sent next door) on 10th Feb saying I had been caught speeding in a 30mph zone, via static camera, doing 36 mph on 18th December.

Now I realise that I have not changed my log book and it is still in my old address. So they could have sent a first letter to my old address, but I am unaware of this.

This letter has been sent the street I live on but next door. Next door posted it through the door.

Am i liable as it is outside the 14 days they are meant to contact you in, even though it is my fault I never changed my log book. If next door had not posted this through my door I would be none the wiser.

    Any advice please.

    Thanks

Of course you are liable. It is not DVLA's fault that you changed your address without telling them. This shows how important it is to keep DVLA informed of any change of details. If next door had not had the gumption to post it through your letter box, the thing would escalate and you would eventually have had to pay a lot more in fines and penalties.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
  • How would you expect them to contact you, via telepathy? Just because you haven't bothered to update your address doesn't mean you're exempt from speeding fines.

Take responsibility for your actions, instead of trying to pass the blame.

And in fact is an offence in itself

Yes, it's still valid - and be careful complaining about it because failing to notify a change of address makes you liable for a L3 (currently £1000) fine and a criminal conviction. They don't often chase that one, but if you start using it to try and get out of an alternative (and less serious) offence they might just decide to pursue both.

So probably best to just pay the ticket and get your paperwork in order pronto ;)

I agree with joe you did the dirty so you need to pay
  • You are all quick to jump to conclusions thinking it was me who was driving, saying I did the dirty!!!
  • YOU did the dirty by NOT ADVISING DVLA.
This site is beginning to get stupid.
It is a moneysaving site NOT a "How can I avoid the consequences of MY OWN ACTIONS/INACTIONS!!!!"

  • Am i liable as it is outside the 14 days they are meant to contact you in, even though it is my fault I never changed my log book. If next door had not posted this through my door I would be none the wiser.

Your use of the term 'I' refer to the guilty party being yourself, so a reasonable assumption to make.

    Were you driving?

Edit: And to the above poster, life these days seems to be about blaming someone else for their own incompetence. People just don't take responsibility any more, and when they're accused as such they finish a sentence with 3 exclamation marks, implying they are annoyed because they might actually have to stump up for something they did.
