Lidl fruit trees.
Lidl have fruit trees in today for £3.99. I bought a Victoria Plum, but they also had pear, apple and cherry in the Swansea Parc Tawe branch. Also had lilac bushes, these were £6.99 and two rose bushes for £5, tea rose, floribunda and climbing. These look really healthy so fingers crossed they grow.:)

Lidl are selling two fruit trees for £7 or £3.99 each today.
I saw some trees and shrubs in Poundland yesterday but didnt get any as so far I am unsure what I have in my new garden (currently in flat and due to move to a house).0 -
I got a cherry - single stem just showing a few green buds so I know it's not a dead stick. The Aldi ones have several branches and are more mature
Still seemed quite big to struggle home on the bus with!
Planted already
The lilacs don't look like good value to meYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
I just got two pear (conference and somethingelse) an apple and a peach. Now just to find out how far apart they need to be spaced. Any advice welcome.

Would these trees grow ok in pots the same size as a round dustbin? thank you in anticipation of answers0

Keld, after a quick Google, it varies from about 10ft to 18ft, depending on how big the tree will be on maturity.0 -

I think they would probably grow too big Gina. Unless somebody else knows better?0 -

They would grow - they may not however grow as planned and would be stunted once the roots got compacted - you could then tip them out every couple of years and trim the roots off one side of the rootball and replace with fresh compost
They may produce a little fruit; they would certainly give some pretty blossom and a perch for birds
So while a dwarf variety would be better in this situation, for £4 it may be worth a gamble

I went for the Stella, and it's gone in the ground today. Good healthy looking rootball on it, too.
From what I can tell, the Morello tends to have a more horizontal, open style, while the Stella tends to be narrower and grow more vertically. The latter suits small spaces better.0 -
i bought my Stella from Homebase last autumn and i'm hoping to train it so that it doesn't get too tall for picking/covering, but as the above poster is saying that it grows tall and narrow, that i won't be able to control it's height?0
