BT Net Protect Plus

In true money saving fashion a couple of days ago I was reviewing BT services - realising that broadband contract and Anytime calls contract expired at totally different times I arranged for them both to expire at same time (this saved me £2.90 per month). Confirmation email that this had been done suggested BT Net Protect Plus would protect our computer and laptops. We contacted them and went through the procedure of downloading this etc. but were unable to do this for reasons unknown. This experience and the fact that we realised that we were not going to get any better protection than that we already had I today phoned BT and asked to cancel this. Simple request - you would think - not so - despite this been free for first three months and then £3.49 a month on a monthly contract and the fact that we had not downloaded it we were unable to cancel it without paying £3.49 on our next bill.
How pathetic is that - spent 15 minutes on phone trying to reason and negotiate to no avail -put phone down in end before stress levels went through roof.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

BT Net Protect Plus is just McAffee-at an even higher price than buying it direct. It also happens to be one of the worst rated AV progams around, so I wouldn't use it even for free, when you can pick Avira, Avast or MSE instead.
The reason is presumably that you need to give 30 days notice to cancel the service, so you are billed another month in advance.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
