Cancelling Virgin Media with no penalty!

HI guys,

Called virgin up this morning to cancel (as im moving home in April)...anyway in the email about price changes (at the bottom) theres a link to cancel without paying a penalty.

So I enquired abot this, and was told that the price rise had to be 10% or so (the guy pretty much told me that the company had worked out the rise so cancellings not possible)...however reading the terms and conditions..any price rise is enough for you to cancel without penalty (as long as you cancel within 30 days of notification).

I also mentioned that i was moving out and they tried to say that this is the reason for my wanting to cancel (to try and make me pay the charges)...i argued and eventually they backed down.

So this is the time if you want to cancel....all you should mention is the price rise and that you are giving your 30 days notice, and don't take no for an answer. It's in their t&c's.

How slimey they are tho....happy to lie and trick customers into staying.

Agree with the advice but I'm not sure it's lying so much as just not knowing what the situation is. I called to cancel my TV early on the basis of the price rises which, fair enough, was accepted without argument. However, when I mentioned that I was cancelling partly because the F1 channel would not be offered in HD the agent insisted that it would be! Again, in fairness, she did go to check and then realised her mistake. I also had a job to convince her that I could have Sky TV without a land line. After that I was able to get off the phone without further interrogation. :)

You can only do this within 30 days of them advising you of the increase, otherwise any cancellation will incur the cancellation fees. They've offered a 'waiver' which you can take advantage of, and there should be no issues providing you are not time-barred from using it as the reason to depart.
