Who buys this stuff?

I totally agree that some 'convenience' foods are just ridiculous - Asda bags of chopped onions, anyone? But I'm totally guilty of buying bags of icecubes. I know it's only water and I know I could use an icecube tray myself, but my pet hate is going to make myself a nice G&T and finding that my housemate has used all the ice and not refilled the **** tray! So, for £1, I'll have a nice big bag of ice instead. Guilty as charged!2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
The only time I've bought ice cubes is when I had my house warming party. I didn't have a proper freezer at the time only a fridge with one solitary freezer shelf. so bought large bags of ice cubes to put in a large plastic box to chill the beer. I now shudder at some of the things I used to buy. My one convenience food now is Findus crispy pancakes (the chicken ones).......bad I know.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Actually this is my `sin` but get them from Waitrose which is my local supermarket! I cook from scratch but hate chopping onions and this is a lifesaver for me when I need to produce a meal fast!

I hate chopping onions so I buy a big bag of them, use the food processor to chop them up an then freeze them to use when I need.
I get it all over and done with in one go - doesn't seem so bad thenworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I never used to but am currently pregnant and unable to be in the kitchen when food's being cooked or I throw up so I need things that can just be chucked in the oven. Thankfully most things seem to be less salty than they used to be but if I didn't need really bland food I'd never want to eat half the stuff I've been shovelling in...0

When I was doing my teacher training one of my housemates was the same. He was an absolute idiot though and filled our fridge and freezer with rubbish!!

I just think it would be very sad if the defining "quality" of OS was to be a smug superiority over others. We all know made from scratch with fresh ingredients is "best", but life, family and circumstances can make this unobtainable occasionally/ always (delete as appropriate):D
I speak as one who has deformed fingers from arthritis, and has been reduced to tears of pain when preparing all the fresh veggies for my old peoples Lunchclub.
Exactly. When did OS mean snob? Never.

I do buy M&S stuff for a treat, and I used to work there so I got a lot of stuff in the staff shop, but it really is amazing what some people buy! I worked in the food dept and the number of middle aged women and young business men who bought this stuff over the little old ladies or disabled people (or those treating themselves) was unreal. They don't realise how privaledged they are, but also how wasteful they are too.

I agree that shop-bought bags of ice cubes can be very useful. For everyday use I just have a couple of ice cube trays that live in my (not very large) freezer, but when catering for lots of people or when in a situation without access to a fridge, it's handy stuff
For example, if you have a party where lots of people are going to want ice in their drinks, it's a logical option. Or if you are having a picnic with a bottle of wine that needs chilling.
My freezer is chock a block with portions of HM food - I certainly can't fit large quantities of ice in there as well!Operation Get in Shape

when we have big barbeques in the summer I like to have a trough full of ice to put the drinks in. Last year I drove myself crazy making ice-cubes and bagging them up two or three times a day and still didn't have enough. So I confess that this year I will be buying them (but only for special occasions) It's probably cheaper than all the electricity wasted opening the freezer door all the time!
someone mentioned those little bags of carrot sticks/apples etc for kids...we tried them once and they taste awful...what a way to put your children off eating healthily!weaving through the chaos...0
