Is it true that Lakeland have announced a merger with the Kaleidascope catalogue?Oh dear, here we go again.0

OH just came home from the local londis with 2 of their ready meals. He thought he was doing good as they were on offer - 2 for £4! I had to praise him a bit because he thought he was doing good but I think I need to talk to him more about how it would be cheaper to make our own. They have gone in the freezer and will be eaten when neither of us fancy cooking!0

It seems that a lot of people seem to be almost ashamed of buying grated cheese, why? You buy what suits you and your circumstances, no need to be sheepish with what you buy as long as its in your budget.
I don't actually buy grated cheese, in fact I hardly use cheese but I do like it. I used to get through loads of cheese so I made a point of not buying it. I only bought it once 2 years ago!
I was looking at the grated cheese in M&S yesterday and saw they had 250g of mature cheddar for £1.99 or you could get 2 for £3. To me that looked like a reasonable offer as I now only buy cheese when it is on offer.
Also as I only shop for me (where food is concerned) buying the grated cheese sounds like an option as I only use a little bit at a time - couple of sprinkles and it hardly seems worth getting the grater out just for that. I really dislike washing up the grater, more cheese seems to get stuck in it than I actually use!0 -
I was only having a similar discussion in the office earlier. My colleague was going on about ready made pancake mix. Which led on to frozen yorkies and frozen roast potatoes!! I dispair sometimes!!!!Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0

seraphina wrote:Slightly OT but I do think that Lakeland has gone downhill lately. They used to sell useful things for the kitchen at a reasonable price but lately their catalogue is just full of weird gadgets and fancy foods, and their P&P is very steep.
I agree, but I did see a pineapple corer/slicer which I thought could be quite good. It was about £7 I think. Anyway have got one for £4 from Tchibo and its the most fab kitchen gadget ever! I love fresh pineapple but always seem to make a mess of chopping it up by hand. This does everything for you and wastes nothing of the fruit (so moneysaving too!) Also idiot proof, well my husband has used it so far. Sorry off-topic but thought it might interest someone!0 -

No - it's hard looking after elderly relatives when you're working and there's nobody else to help. I'm sure everything you do for him is very much appreciated by him and you deserve credit for doing that, rather than just leaving him to fend for himself. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Pink: buy the mango slicer. I love mangoes but never bought them because I couldn't de-stone them. I was given one of these and it is brilliant. It just shows, doesn't it - one person's mango slicer is another person's packet of pre-grated cheese. Just as well we're all different, eh ? !:rotfl:0

Getting back to the OP of this thread... I have one question - are these jacket potaoes with cheese part cooked? The only reason I can see to buy them is if they are and it saves having the oven on for 2 hours. I have less of an issue with someone buying a bag of grated cheese and a potato, I do worry for someone who can't put potato in oven/microwave, add cheese, eat.
Then again, I've never understood pre-prepared carrot sticks either. Go figure.
All this talk of mango-corers reminds me of a girl I worked with about 15 years ago who was obsessed with wanting a melon baller on her wedding present list. I think you could have bought her a dishwasher and she would still have been more enamoured with the melon gadget.

No joke, for Valentines day you could buy romantic rose petals in a plastic blister pack - can't remember how much. i couild've used the petals that fell off the roses I was given after 2 days (I'm an old misery, but i'd told him I didn't want them but he bought some anyway as he's been brainwashed by the marketing industry)Austin_Allegro wrote:Here's my idea for overpriced supermarket convenience tat (M&S if you're listening feel free to use this idea).
