How long do I have to declare cancellation of insurance

I have said this before
My girlfriend had her insurance cancelled for non-payment
There's an insurance broker that's been in the same shop for the last 15 years that I know of, we went there
He said he'd never heard of an insurer who would regard cancellation for non-payment as "having insurance cancelled"
According to him the "insurance cancelled or special terms imposed" means you've had it cancelled for fraud/withholding a material fact etc, in other words been voided. NOT just a routine cancellation for an "administrative" reason e.g. you don't want the policy any more, or there's been a problem collecting the money.

You are best off talking to the insurer, and getting their view of whether it counts as you having had insurance cancelled before... but I must point out, as happened to us, one call operator's view... can be the complete opposite to anothers!

I was lucky myself, I got a date of conviction mixed up with my driving test pass date and they noticed. If they had cancelled my policy because of it I'd have been screwed and have to declare it forever... that's because it would be seen that I lied on my application for insurance and they cancelled it for that reason. As it was, they just amended the premium.
