How long do I have to declare cancellation of insurance

Quick one really - Almost 2 years ago, me and my husband were on holiday (getting married) and when we came back we had a letter from our insurance company that our DDs had been returned and we had to pay the full amount of the insurance or they would cancel it. We couldn't afford to pay it off in one go (it was a multicar policy so needed to pay for both cars) so advised them that we would let it cancel. Basically the DD failed on the day we left and they tried taking a second one the day before we got back! We're well aware that it's our fault and the fact that it DID cancel, it's just declaring the cancellation.
How long do I have to declare it to other insurers for?

I thought that might be the case but it just sounds a bit mean! That would mean I would have to declare it in 20 years but then don't even ask when it was like they do with claims and motoring convictions - seems a bit harsh!0

As you told them to cancel it, strictly speaking you may not need to.
I don't know if it is held on a database anywhere, it may just be with that insurer.
CUE holds most data on you though, and you can get a copy for £10

CUE doesn't hold "most data" on clients. It is purely for recording details of claims/losses. Details of cancellation/voidance would be normally detailed on a database such as Insurance Hunter.0 -

So, what do you reckon.
If the insurer contacts a customer, and gives them the chioce of paying, or cancelling, and the customer says cancel, is it going to haunt them, or is it indeed the customer's instuction to cancel?

If the insurer exercised it's right to cancel under the policy wording by issuing a letter giving notice of cancellation then I would disclose it to any new insurer. If they didn't issue such a letter - if, in effect, it was being cancelled by "mutual consent", then I think the OP would not be in any trouble in not disclosing it.Who do you contact to get your data from Insurance Hunter, if it's on there?

if justcat went to a broker and explained the reasons then they would be able to advise accordingly
you have to remember all these tick box insurers cant cover everyone
and of course its real jobs for real people in your local brokers rather than know nothing just left school pubescent kids reading from scripts

My insurance company are one of the EVER had a policy declined or cancelled.
And they cancelled it for non payment, You didnt cancel it. Have they asked for more money yet?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
