what do you mean when I have finished school?
The BBC jumped on some journals that where previously released, I am however aware of the program. (the BBC didn't actually credit those who conducted the experiment, they credited those that verified it) MITB attacks are a big problem atm and an interesting take on the MITM attacks that are not some common today.
So you admittedly have no security related qualifications (you have very basic qualifications) or experience. Have you ever conducted a penetration test or written an exploit?
Maybe you should try gaining something like a crest qualification, might actually open your mind and you will stop talking about stuff you don't know.
Id say doing a BSC or MSC would really benefit you, yes there is a load of bull but gives you a lot of time to develop many related skills and meet groups of people to develop further interests0 -

you really are abit of plonka you have already admitted you have no higher education in computing. you have listed a load of basic courses. If you have access to journal databases I will show you the breakdowns of the tests conducted around MITB attacks.
I actually listen to industry experts and know quite a few from wasp and seen the evidence first hand
your argument is based on nothing no research just what you think is good cuz you think your a computer expert cuz you help ppl reset there passwords. Can you even program?0 -
Certainly don't think that these last few posts in this thread add anything to the OP question.
For most people who just want easy security for normal Internet browsing and email, Microsoft Security Essentials is quite enough for most users.. Maybe not the best but just works away in the background.
No program gives 100% protection whether it be paid for or free. Just make sure whatever you use you keep updated..0 -
how come the last comments have been removed I was making peace with matt0

Well said twins! OP just needs a simple free/cheap solution, not a technical debate!
I agree with libre office or open office (both free)
I use to use AVG anti virus but found it slowed my computer a lot. Now use Avast (free here).
Also superantispyware and
Malwarebytes
In all cases make sure you look for and download the free version, not the full/paid-for versions!0 -

Why on earth are you bumping a four month old thread?0 -
Too much sniping here!
The OP wants a simple answer to a simple question, and most early advice here gave it. Please end the arguments, kiddies. Remember, a little knowledge is even more dangerous when passed on as fact!
I would recommend, Libre Office or Open Office and Microsoft Security Essentials. I would also recommend that the gentleman visits his local library to see if there are any free simple IT courses, just to show him the barebones, if he is able.
A firewall is included in Windows, but the best one is already part of the Router. Please help also by setting up the router for him and using the manual to set up WPA2 security. If you are not IT capable, ask a friend to do it.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
