Hi
I am currenty with Hastings and have just received a renewal quote through the post for £315 and it states its via a partner company 'Advantage'.
Did a search on 2 different comparison sites and the cheapest is with ....Hastings but its £255 on one and £265 on another ! I dont understand why all the different figures. I am comparing like for like as far as I can see.
Can't seem to get through to the call centre to ask what this is about. Does anyone know ?

HD aren't popular on this forum - they write off cars and refuse to let you buy back the salvage unless you kick up a stink here publically and then their rep will ask you to contact them directly to sort it - anything to stop it being played out in public.0

An insurer will vary the premium it charges via different channels for several reasons:
1) Different intermediaries will take different levels of commission for generating the business.
2) Different intermediaries will have different marketing techniques and will attract different types of customer profile - with the associated effects on the insurer's loss ratio from business through that channel. The premium will be altered accordingly.
3) Again due to the differing profile of the customers they attract, different intermediaries will generate business with different "life-cycle values" - i.e. an intermediary which generates business which is less price sensitive at the first and subsequent renewals will tend to attract a lower initial rate.
4) The insurer may be tied into medium- to long-term agreements with intermediaries on giving exclusive rates etc.0 -

No, it doesn't say "buyer beware" at all. Come back to the thread when you actually have something useful to add to answer the OP's specific question.
i read it as such
you just give lots of words to say that depending on the angle of advertising demographics your insurance premium may go up
edit
i see you are insurance
i am surprised

not
The OP asked:
"I dont understand why all the different figures."
Your responses have not answered that question or shed any light on it whatsoever. The OP is clearly fully aware of the power of aggregators, hence why he/she went on them. As such, your posts on this thread have been beyond pointless.0 -

As do others. bit unfair to make out it's one firm.
raskazz - spot on with the question and answer. OP said as far as they were concerned they were comparing like for like and you pointed out why that might not be the case.
The only other correct post is "insurer was trying to have him" which at £15 they were.
However, a phone call should see it drop to the same as a comparision site and/or you can maybe use a cashback site to get some money back if you go direct.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
