Water meter on lead supply pipe

Will United Utilities install a water meter in the supply to a property fed in lead pipe????

It would obviously be better to have an alkathene supply pipe installed, but this isnt really an option at the moment...

I can't see why they wouldn't fit a meter on a lead supply pipe. They only advise you to get your lead pipes replaced - they don't insist

Yes they will fit a meter on a lead supply no problem

Many thanks for the replies...

My lead pipe is connected under the sidewalk to the stop tap...
Is this likely to be where they fit the new meter or would they fit it internally??

it depends on there metering policy,they will usually dig out the stoptap in the street and fit a boundary box and meter,if on a shared supply usually internally

Usually we fit the meters inside the property at the point where the water supply first enters, If we cannot fit the meter internally this is where we would go down the route of having the meter fitted outside
