Renault Megane - swapped keyfob battery - now doesn't work!

However, I've tried pointing the key ast the Freeview box (which has a Red LED that flashes in response to the remore control) and when I point the faulty keyfob at it and press the button, I get no response. If I try the same with the Master keyfob (which is working) I get a response. Therefore, I'm deducing that something has happened to the fob - either a bad joint on the PCB or something else. What's annoying is I used to work or a company that supplied truck security systems. A new transponder and programming instructions used to cost the customer £15.
Perhaps another scam that Martin should look into?
Apologies if this info is of no use but on my Ford Mondeo after changing the batteries , my central locking also failed and the cure was to disconnect the car battery for 10 minutes to reset everything ( If you try this then make sure you have the Radio Security Code). I`ve given this info to others and it does work on other makes of car ( but I don`t know which ! )0 -
I have the same problem with my Renault Scenic R reg. key needs reprogrammed - can i have the steps to re program this myself as i really don't want to have to take it to the dealership. Thanks0

Here's my problem.....I have a 98 R reg Megane scenic. It came with 2 keys. 1 has never worked (red LED lights but no sign of life from IR using camera phone technique).
I changed the batteries on the working one last month and had to reprogramme by using key's S-code and vehicle type from owner's book and obtaining a 4 digit code using these values in a downloadable prog from web, then using central locking button to count out the 4 digit code, then pointing the key at black bulb in ceiling.
I bought another key from ebay with a view to reprogramming to use as a spare key. If I use the same 4 digit code I cannot reprogramme key when pointed at ceiling. If I use the S-code inside the key in the same program that I obtained the 1st key's code, I receive a different 4 digit code which the car doesn't accept and flashes the red light and engine management at me very fast.
Does the car have one 4 digit code for its immobiliser that should work with both keys, or should each key have a seperate 4 digit code?0 -
I have encountered this problem twice with my megane now.
Back in January '07', water was leaking through the sunroof which caused damage to my sensor and the signal to weaken. Eventually, this worsened and I took my car into Renault. I was hit with 2 cost's - £90+ for a new key and £60+ for a new sensor. Whilst waiting for my key, I had to enter the 4 digit code everytime I needed to start the engine to bypass the immobiliser. Upon receipt of the new key, I no longer needed the spare which didn't deactivate the sensor anyway and I kept this at home for emergency.
This emergency has come up this weekend as I lost my keys and the code I have no longer works. If my memory serves me correct, I have the original code, however am sure that it changed when the new sensor was fitted.
I called Renault today who are going to charge me £35 to release the code and then a further £85 once I get the car to them so they can sync the spare key to the immobiliser.
Any help on this would be much appreciated, although internet reseach suggest's that only Renault can rectify this problem.0 -

I have repaired 2 keyfobs myself which involves reprogramming the immobiliser to key fobs. To do this you will need to get the 4 digit code from a Renault dealer. Reprogramming takes under 5 minutes. If this issue has not been resolved already then i will leave step by step instructions to to this. Another similar problem i have fixed is re-soldering the infra red bit of the key back to the fob circuit board which again only takes a few minutes. If this does need soldering, you will still need to reset the key fob with the immobilser code from Reanult.
I have the same problem and luckily I have found the 4-digit code. Any chance you could post the step by step guide as to how I can reprogram my key please?

After doing a bit more research on google I discovered that all I needed to do was hold down the remote button for 10 seconds (until the light goes off) then press it another 3 times - you should hear the can locking and unlocking and then the key was resynced. 1st time I did it it didn't work but the 2nd time it did.0

Might be an idea to ask in a Renault specialist forum... maybe this one.0 -
