I found myself in a restaurant complaint situation recently and just wondered how other people would have felt/what they'd have done if it had been them. I am NOT ranting or saying I feel hard done by - just genuinely interested in other views as I've had some real strong opinions from other people I've spoken to.
Went to a well known Italian chain restaurant on Sunday tea-time. Service was prompt and pleasant. The only criticism I'd have had was that maybe the food didn't seem quite as nice as when I've eaten there before, but certainly nothing actually wrong. Then more than half way through my main course I noticed a long hair on my plate - it had been hidden under the food. Almost at the same time my son found some plastic on his plate, presumably from the corn on the cob he was eating.
I called to the waitress who immediately called the manager. He immediately apologised and asked if we wanted replacement mains - neither of us did as we'd already had starters, eaten a lot of the main already and were wanting dessert. I told him this but asked if he would make some adjustment to the bill, which he said he'd do. At the end of the meal he informed us that he'd knocked 25% off the whole bill, including our drinks.
I was happy with that - 5 of us had eaten there and that 25% was a lot more than the cost of our two affected mains. He was polite, no fuss and it was dealt with very professionally. I feel totally satisfied with this but was amazed when a friend of mine said I should have taken it much further.
I'm not sure what else would have been appropriate, I felt it was very well handled and we were adequately compensated. No problem for me and I've no intention of doing anything else. Am I really going soft here? I wondered what other people thought

I would have been happy too.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Would certainly have satisfied me, when you hear some restaurant stories it sounds positively exemplary.0

Seems good to me.

Given that no harm was done, I think 25% off was exceptional.
I wonder what your friend would have wanted. A full refund plus vouchers?Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -
Glad to hear that others also think the same as I did. I get really wound up by people demanding massive compo for everything tbh. A mistake was made, they corrected it and I was very impressed by the way they did it.0

Sounds like good service, perhaps you should consider new friends?
Remember if they ever wrong you then to massively overreact, they will obviously be expecting it!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
That sounds like a good outcome to me, I wouldn't take it further.I'd imagine the manager will already be having a word with the staff about making sure all packaging is fully removed to avoid the plastic incident again. And as for the hair, who hasn't had a hair in their food at some point in their lives? Hair nets are all well and good but the sneaky blighters will find a way out once in a while.0

Sounds perfectly fine. Not sure what else your friend would have wanted?0

I'd have been more than happy too, something similar has happened to me in the past and I was pleased with a free desert

Sounds fantastic to me. Perhaps you should name them on the Praise board.
I have a friend who sounds like yours who thinks everytime someone makes a mistake compensation should be dished out
There was a hair and plastic - were they put there deliberately - no
Did the manager apologise and give you a satisfactory resolution yes
Are you likely to go back there again after your positive outcome - Yes
So the simple resolution the manager came up with has probably secured him future business and you'll tell your friends and family how pleased you were.
I would say a good outcome all round0
