Orange 6 month warranty??

I was in touch with Orange today as my Samsung S2 phone wasn't switching on properly. I am 2 days outside my 6 months warranty period and they advise me that the phone is no longer covered! Can this be correct? I thought retailers are compelled to offer 12 months warranty on all purchases. Bearing in mind this phone has a value of £400+, I'm surprised and disappointed by Orange here.

Any comments or solutions?

Typically for Orange, they tell you lies.
Their obligations are stated by the SOGA that does mention 6 months. However the only difference it makes is that during the first 6 months if Orange refuse to repair/replace they have to prove that the fault is cased by damage. After 6 months the onus is on you to prove that it is not caused by damage if Orange say otherwise.
Unless it is a refurb, all phones have 12-24 months manufacturer's warranty and IMO after 6 months it is just easier to deal directly with the manufacturer.

Wrong. The actual wording is to prove that it WAS caused by a MANUFACTURING FAULT.

I know. *IMO* during the first year (at least) any fault is either a result of damage or a manufacturing fault (excluding battery). I think any judge will agree with this, but you feel free to prove me wrong.
  • I am currently looking to get an S2 and have been told by several retailers that Samsung offers a 2 year warranty so maybe contact them directly?
