Btw Trains heading into London are full before they get to Westcombe Park at peak times.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I think with your budget, OP, you will find somewhere in the areas you've mentioned (perhaps not Dulwich).
If you work in the city then obviously look for somewhere that has trains to Blackfriars/Charing Cross/Cannon St. Although there are a distinct lack of tube lines in SE London, rail links into or near to the city are good so a joureny time of 20 minutes or so is definately feasible/ affordable. Most people I know commute for around 30-40 minutes or less each way into London.
I've lived in SE London all my life - it has a bad press but many areas are actually really nice and still good value.0 -
I wish I could post links and I wish I had a larger budget than £250 but try these houses:
Ladywell

Both quite near the station - any further then its no so nice...
Nunhead

this one has no external photo - might be terrible!

We need to know which part of the city. There is no point in looking at areas with trains to London Bridge if you work next to Blackfriars for example (well its not that bad but adds 25 minutes walk onto the journey).
Sorry just spotted you said London Bridge so I'd look at Ladywell. The area is fine and the train is quick. Honor Oak is nice too but I think the trains are much busier to get on in the mornings.0 -
If you were prepared to look a bit further there is also Sydenham and Crystal Palace/Gypsy Hill. They'll only be an extra 5 minutes journey or so and are still in zone 3. Also, Streatham has trains to London Bridge and isn't too bad.0

Have you tried Bromley? My friend travels to London bridge from there...about 30 min commute I think. Lovely safe area with good schools. You can get a good size 3 bed semi for 350 there
Same with Chelsfield....17-20 min to London from there....There is more to life than increasing its speed.0 -
I used to live in Upper Norwood (aka Crystal Palce) years ago and I loved it. Train to Victoria took about 30 mins (might have been a bit less). Lots of green space and shops/bars.0

I second Hither Green, although there's literally a right side and a wrong side of the tracks (I only found this out when I discovered I'd been living on the wrong side for 2 years....). You might also consider Catford - you get a lot for your money.

A great place to buy is between wood green and alexandra palace train station. New secondary school, great transport, tons of bargains on your doorstep, the lovely alexandra pallace, cinema on door step, solid north london location - on the right side of wood green but the cheap side of alley palley (muswell hill).
You can get 2 bed houses for £280k at the mo and think you might just squeeze a 3 bed into your bracket.
Somewhere around here ...
