What about the Virgin Lobster deal posted elsewhere on this forum.

    Has:
    DAB radio
    free 200 minutes call time
    3 months free DAB-IP TV
can have TomTom Mobile 5.2 installed to make it a great GPS system
    1.3 megapixel camera built in

    All for £40

Radio is decent quality, too. TV is ok. Tomtom is great with a bluetooth receiver.

Does anyone know the cheapest dab walkman?

Argos are selling the Bush (500/3277) Personal DAB down to £39.99, but if its ugliness puts you off there's potentially good news because if you read the web page it says "This product may be substituted with model MOSDRO11XI which is of a similar specification." which is the Ministry of Sound DR011 which although released in 2003 was originally £150, with a quick google search showing many places are still selling it for £80+. Even comes with white, blue & pink rubber covers ;)

I got one of them today, together with a Pure PocketDAB1500 (£90) to compare. The Pure maybe has 10% better reception and a few more menu options, but to me they look like they're based on the same chassis and software.

May be a bargain if you choose the right Argos with the replacement stock.

Got the last one from ASDA Wallmart super centre Pudsey yesterday. Unfortunately i got the ex display one and on getting home found it had a cable missing which was luckily just an rj45 cable. The kit comes complete with an aerial. the model is an acoustic solutions dab-ics100. At worst you can install this bodged with the cigarette lighter socket, and the front aux input on a car stereo. At best you'll need to remove your stereo and trim panels.

Can you post the barcode number of this DAB adapter please ?
Might help in my efforts to locate one somewhere.

    Cheers

A few months ago I was reading that the first generation of DAB radios will be useless in a few years time because of so called changes to the way the signal is received. Dont ask me the technical details as I dont understand it.
My question is then are these radios that are being quoted as 'good buys' the old style or are they the updated ones?

I think it depends. My guess is most available now will not be updatable to run the new system. My understanding is that improvements are going to be made and DAB radio will use a new codec. However, I'm also sure that the new and old systems will be run in parallel for some time like analogue and digital tv. A DAB radio bought now should be good for at least maybe 2 years (is my guess).

I think the new DAB will be called DAB+

Expect existing "old" DABs to work for at least 5 years (and probably more like 7 or 8) on all currently available network MUXs and hence stations.
Even after then they will work on many of the stations until they upgrade their broadcasting equipment.
It is possible some new MUXs & stations may come online in the new DAB standard after the analogue TV system is switched off and more room in the relative RF spectrum is made available.

This seems a good idea, is the phone easy to use just as a radio, I do not need a phone or tv! Thanks.

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.
