The Cheapest DAB Radios
Comments

The discussion about sound quality is for those who listen to FM, as the poster said above five live is my favourite station for sport and news when I'm pottering about and the AM reception where I live is awful so the sound quality of DAB is far better. I cant wait till DAB car radio prices drop too.
What DAB also gives is far more choice for the listener than FM ever could.
All that said if five live were on FM then I think DAB wouldnt be anywhere near as popular.0 -
Can anybody tell me if I was to buy a DAB radio would I be able to hook it up to my stereo that I already have so that I can listen to it through the stereo speakers?
Also the speakers i've got are pretty good so would the sound quality be better coming through my speakers?
Thanks0 -

Oh no..... I think 'Talk Sport' is more popular than 'Five Dead'. :-) It's why I have DAB.
As for putting DAB through your stereo (loggers post) - you can if the DAB in question has a line out. Most will have. You can buy DAB hi-fi components (i.e. no speakers) though which may fit better with your system and should give better quality.
I still think 'cheapest DAB' is a bit like looking for cheapest toilet roll... yes it could be the cheapest but would you use it?0 -

If the radio station you want is available on Freeview, then get a cheap Freeview box (if you haven't got one already) and connect that up to your stereo. Then you'll get nice sound quality from TV and radio - Freeview radio quality is better than DAB and nearly as good as FM

When you buy a DAB Radio dont jut go automatically for the cheap one... Look at the specs, like how many Watts etc.the Money Saving Expert team do not moderate forums, so if you see something that shouldnt be here report it! :beer:0

Got one of the Netto ones so that I can listen to my local station on DAB without the interference I get from pirate stations on FM.0

DON'T FORGET...
As mentioned before the format for new stations is changing from MP2 to AAC+.
So, if you are investing a fair bit of cash into a quality set make sure it supports all codecs.
It'll be a few years before the old stations change. Hence, the cheap sets will see this out.

:j Well, I got my DAB radio free with my O2 mobile phone, which is a pay as you go. This was a little while ago.0

Sorry, don't understand any of the technical jargon on here. I just want a radio to keep me company at my desk while I'm wordprocessing all morning. It HAS to receive the main BBC national stations clearly - otherwise I can't see any point to it. I'm not into any of the fringe stations. Never have been nor will be.
Can anyone point me in the direction of something which combines the usual desirables of reasonable quality sound and cheapness, please?0 -

Yes, if like me you have Genus DU1 or DU2 add-on for your hi-fi system. This little box gives really high class sound.
See:

PS. I have no relationship with uk-surplus.com or genusdigital, apart from being a satisfied customer and very happy to recommend them and this product.0
