My son is currently in halls at uni. From September he will be sharing a house until july 2013. Is there any provider out there providing broadband and phone for less than a full year?

Broadband, yes-quite a few offer 30 day rolling contracts, including Plusnet. But it will cost more, and probably incur a connection fee. Line rental is the problem-almost all telcoms require a 12m contract-the PO is one of the exceptions.
Is there already an active line in the property? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm a current student and most people I know tend to go with a Virgin deal that combines internet and tv. We have a landline phone but never use it as everyone has mobiles.0

I work with uni students and I've yet to see a 9 month contract from them so would be interested to see it please. We had problems in the Exeter area with virgin over selling their services to students and then everyone experiencing very slow connections. I've personally had problems with them in the past but for students who don't want or need a BT based phone line they are pretty much the only option.0
