shops are not required by law to refund if you purchased the wrong item or changed your mind, they are only required by law to refund if item is not as described or faulty.
although a lot of shops have their own policy stating that they will refund if you change your mind after anything from 7-90 days although i believe around 14-28 days is the norm0 -
j_davies wrote:So why didnt you send it back to where you got it from if they are reputable, also phone shops will take back chargers if opened I know this as I have done this myself.
Also reputable retailer gives the impression of a shop, if you had said reputable ebayer that would of been clearer.
i didn't send it back because most ebay sellers don't accept returns if you change you mind. If they did accept returns then it would be less the original postage and my return postage so i thought i would be better off re-selling it.
reputable retailer could be a shop, online retailer, ebay seller...0 -

Not 100% true as some shops make up their own unlawful rules.0 -
The stores return policies are exactly that, theres. Most shops realise people buy in error and will offer a no quibble money back return, its good for business.
But do they have to. The simple answer is no they dont.
Under trading standards a shop does not have to refund you simply because you changed your mind.
Quote directly from trading standards.
Remember, you have no legal rights where your complaint arises from:
- fair wear and tear
- misuse or accidental damage
- you decide that you no longer want the item although there is nothing wrong with it
- faults that you knew about before you bought the goods e.g. where the goods were marked as 'shop soiled'.
Also in regards to OP, some of the chargers today are extremly light, when i bought my sony ericsson K750i, i thought they had included a dud charger, as was so light, sounds empty when tapped, but was fineMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
I don't think there is anything suspicious in selling on a charger that was bought in error. It's exactly what I'd do if I'd been a total blonde (again) and bought the wrong item but it being my own fault and not the supplier.
The new mobile phone chargers CAN be very light I have to agree
I like that because I travel a fair bit at times and some of the old chargers weighed half a tonne! I also usually invest in a means of charging for home, office and in my car... so if the phone can't charge on mini usb then that means I have 2 chargers and a car charger. A pretty legitimate reason for buying another charger I would have thought
Now depending on whether this is an expensive charger then if she returns it and you test it and find it is faulty you COULD contact the seller and say "look I bought this a little while ago but bought the wrong one and couldn't use it. I've now tested it and it seems that is doesn't work so I was wondering if you would be able to refund on this etc etc" and be VERY nice to them... otherwise carry the cost of it and refund her once she's returned it...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Thanks for all your advice and opinions. problem is now solved. just received this reply:
"hi, i have worked it out, this charger has the appearance of an older charger but operates like a new style charger. it charges a friends mobile but not mine which i exactly what the newer lightweight chargers do. i notice you did not specify my mobile in your listing, my mistake sorry, will give it to my freind. many thanks,v."
she then left me positive feedback and i will do the same
so she also purchased the wrong charger like i did, although i realised it was my mistake as straight after receiving it i tried to charge my phone with it i realised the plug/connector was the wrong size. I promptly re-read the auction and saw that my mobile was not included in the list that it was compatible with, rather than accusing the seller of sending me an empty charger casing!0 -
pinkgem you are doing exactly the right thing take it back and test it to hopefully receive good feedback from this buyer.take no notice of the people quoting you the mobile handbook rules 1977:rotfl: .they remind me of the buyer of your charger.trying to complicate matters by nit picking and squabbling
