Travel Republic - Urgent help needed

We booked a holiday on 18 Jan 2012 - With Travel Republic to stay in a particular hotel which is still the hotel named on the booking when I login.
A month later we receive an email from them saying:
Please note that as a result of an internal system error on our website, it has come to light that the booking you originally made to (the Oura View Beach Club in Albufeira) was in fact made at the (Oura Praia Hotel in Albufeira).
Please accept our sincere apologies for the error and the inconvenience caused. At Travel Republic we aim to provide our customers with the best possible service at all times and I appreciate that we have fallen short on this occasion.
You have the following options available to you:
1) You may cancel your accommodation booking free of charge and receive a full refund;
2) If you wish to book an alternative property on our website we can offer a 5% discount.
3) If you choose to accept Oura Praia Hotel we can offer a 5% price reduction (£14.90).

We were due to go in May and don't think what they offering is acceptable, I have a manager calling me back in an hour. Do we have a leg to stand on to fight and get the hotel that we have in writing that we booked?

You are entitled to be put back into the position you were in before you made the booking.
Option 1 provides that.
Options 2 and 3 are over and above your rights.

Well on other sites it was about £50 more at the time we were booking, but now it's looking at a couple of hundred extra
Thanks for the response, I thought that but 5% is a bit insulting. I will see if I can get them to do better than that just for the inconvenience

Worth a try but Travel Republic aren't usually very co operative. They emailed me 2 days before departure to say the hotel I'd booked and paid for was now unavailable, and offered me a refund or another booking.
No assistance to choose another hotel...Just like it or lump it. I opted for a refund and could almost hear the disinterested shrug at the other end of the line.0 -

Depends how you feel about what they`ve offered.
Option 1 means you start all over again.

The reviews are actually OK, but pool not as nice and not as close to the sea etc, we were just looking forward to a nice hotel, and now that a month has passed the availability is not as good if we were going to start again. Plus now I have worries that it could happen again too!!!0 -

Try to push him for 10% or you`ll have your money back and never use them again.
Plenty of others Alpharooms,Hotels4U,Monarch,Teletext Holidays etc.
They all do packages and are online.

I actually think it's a fair offer.
The websites work via XML feeds direct from the hotel room wholesalers, that's why you can sometimes find the same hotel come up a number of different times on a search with slightly different descriptions and room prices. Errors are easily made if the description (often set by the feed owner) isn't totally clear or another hotel has a very similar name - there's little to gain for Travel Republic "to do this all the time", as a business they're in it to make not cancel bookings.0 -
Yes but to not realise this till a month later and contact by email is poor service at best!0

Hopefully you paid by credit card?
If so talk to you card providers disputes section. You may well be covered under Consumer Credit Act. You will be surprised how helpful they can be, as I have found out. I also had a problem with Travel Republic.
A call to Consumer Direct will also be a good idea.
