Costa Brava or Costa Blanca in March?

  • I've got a 5 day break from EMA to Alicante on 12th March for £20.20 return but not sure how much they're going for now. I stop in Torrevieja which I have to admit isn't buzzing but there is some nightlife to be had. Have to say - love it or hate it (and I hate it!) Benidorm is the busiest place at this time of year. Weather wise this will be my 3rd March - 1st year was really sunny and hot strappy tops and shorts all the way but last year there was a cold breeze but still sunny and lovely if you could find somewhere sheltered. Evenings were cold though and did have to take a coat. I get car hire much cheaper than was mentioned above about £68 for a clio for a week. Many companies do charge full/empty for the petrol but you can negotiate - particularly if you're hiring for a shorter period of time. I use Carjet.com mostly and have never had a problem with them. hope this is useful and enjoy your holiday - I definately will!
  • Benidorm is much more than just Lager, chip butties, cabaret and sticky vickie.
Along the Levante beach (Calle Madrid) theres some really nice cafe bars. The Old Town and Poniente Beach are much more cosmopolitan too.It really has something for everyone.
  • You can easily rent a small budget car for £70 per week at that time of year. Google "Budget car hire Spain" and take your pick.

Thanks everyone. It seems from the advise given that Alicante (or nearby) would be a better option. I need to find a heap flight 2 or 3 March to 6 March and reasonable accommodation now. Any suggestions welcome.

cheapest to Alicante 2-6 march is from LUTON AROUND £70 RETURN. Murcia's £20 cheaper.
If you think diff justifies it, you can get a free , detailed route from Murcia San Javiere to Benidorm with https://www.theaa.com.It really is an easy 1+1/2 hrs drive, Toll road all the way (5 euroish) Do a return route too, just makes it easier.

You can do a broad search (ie all London Airports) to (ie Alicante) and it returns all the results for Alicante and Murcia those dates.

I think they charge a booking fee, but if you click thru to almost the booking bit you can normally extract which airline each flight is with. Remember ,you may not be returning with the same airline

For accom see "free Barcelona hotel thread"
Those dates you could price match easyjethotels against DIYtravel.co.uk

    Mariscal Iv/ V apts (for 3)
    Easyjethotels 95
    diytravel 84
    diff = 11
    times 2 = 22
    your effective price 95-22=£73

These apts are ok, quite close to nightlife. Pool probably shut till May though

Murcia to Benidorm, even on the motorway is a good hour and a half. If you're flying into Murcia you might do better to stay on the Mar Menor. If you're flying in to Alicante then go north. Altea have a good market on Tuesdays, Torrevieja on Fridays....shoes for three euros.
  • Torre Market's my favourite. It's so big you get lost in it! Have to give myself a good 4 hours to go round and pick up loadsa bargains. Lots of tat too but you don't have to buy after all! OH stays in bed when I set off and meets me in the pub for lunch - he's got no stamina. I'll be there in less than 3 weeks - Yippee!!!
  • Costa Blanca definately... I didn't particularly like benidorm Levante side much prefere the old town but as an alternative have you thought about costa del sol????? Benalmadena still southern spain but doesnt have the tackiness like benidorm.....
