Occasional Broad Band Away from Home

Every 2 months or so we travel to Cornwall to visit my mother for about 4 days - I take my lap top with me because we let a holiday home in France and it is important to maintain internet contact.
Normally at home I use Tiscal/Talk Talk broadband which is in a telephone bundle which allows free telephone calls to France as well as the UK.
My mother does not have broadband, so I am reduced to 'dial up' which is frustratingly slow.
Just before Christmas I tried the 'Bfon', one of BT's hotspots in the area at a charge of £15 for 5 days. I have just visited and saw that their charge for occasional broadband has gone up considerably to an extent I am not preppared to pay.
Does anybody know of a cheap way I could get occasional broadband under these circumstances?

A PAYG dongle is your best option, 3G reception permitting.
Or you could get her a budget broadband tariff, such as Plusnet Value (£6.49pm only, if on a Market 2 or 3 exchange). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
We've just been in Cornwall with the same problem - check if your phone has a personal hotspot facility- I use this on my iphone, and it shouldn't cost any more than your usual contract (but 3 network reception in Cornwall is not good!). The other option is to pop into somewhere like costa coffee which gives free wifi ( I think some bigger Tescos and other stores do it now too but you'll need to check) if you only need to be online for a short time0
