Virgin Default

Hey Guys!

A representative at Virgin cancelled my account without informing me.

They did this as I was no longer at the address but I couldn't move it to my new address as it was student halls.

He rang me to ask if I was at the address but didn't tell me he was cancelling it, he didn't ask for my new address nor did he tell me the account had arrears.

The account had arrears on it so naturally it defaulted.

I phoned Virgin and they've told me its there to stay. Just about to graduate as well.............

I've just sent a letter, is their anything else I can do? Are virgin covered by the CCA?

Thanks!

Might be worth moving this to the Consumer Rights board. You'll likely get better-informed responses over there.

Its a service agreement, so no CCA does not come into it. think you need to raise a complaint, take it you were still paying them?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Moving out does not void your contract-you are liable for the remaining months unless you pay an ETC. If you just stopped paying it, what did you think would happen?

Chances are the person living there now wanted to get VM but couldn't because your account is still active. If,as you say,the account had arrears & you defaulted, then VM would have every right to cancel your account before passing it onto a debt collector, same as every other SP does.Sorry to be blunt but VM's not at fault here, you are, for letting the account get to the stage where arrears built up & you defaulted on it.

Same thread in Consumer Rights. Responses there (as I suggested) are slightly more targeted. Most responders in here are saying it's the OP's fault - over there the answers are more "it depends". :)
